Little League Tourney To Open Here Monday Finals On Wednesday

The schedule for the Lktle League area tourney. which will be held .at Worthman field in this city next week, was announced today by Al Beavers, who wiU be tourney manager. ... 1 There are only sixj.eatns entered in the tourney, as .there are no entries from the Columbia City leagues, as previously expected. Two gamea will be played Monday, two more Tuesday, and the final game Wednesday at 6 p. m. lii the tourney opener at 4:30 p. m. Monday, Maumee Valley will tangle with Southeast Allen. In the second tilt at 6 o’clock. Blufftop American will play Bluffton National. Monday's winners will clash in the first semi-final game at 4:30 p. m. Tuesday, with Decatur and Warsaw meeting al 6 O’clock Winners of the Tuesday gardes will battle for the tourney title at 6 o'clock Wednesday evening. There will be no admission charged, but free will offerings will be received to aid in defraying expenses of the tourney, such as payment of umpires (assigned from Firt Wayne), and baseballs. •Beavers will be assisted in operation of the tourney fry Gene Jiydell, Deane Dorwin and R. Yankees, leading team in the Decatur Little League, will manage the Lecatur all-tourney team, selected several days ago by the four Little League managers. ' Members of the Decatur team will participate in next week's tourney here, are as follows: Jim ReidenlMch, Steve Kinerk, Harley Wolfe. Jerry Scheiman, Vince Gase, Vernon Call, Jerry Hees, Gerald Swygart. Jerry Cillig, Jim Omlor, Waldo Snyder, Jim Gay, Jim Corah, and Nick Conrad. Play At Auburn The winner of the Decatur tourney will compete in the district tourney at Auburn. The Decatur and Huntington winners will play in the first district game at 4 p. m. Monday, Aug. 2. followed by the Auburn and Anderson winners. The championship game is scheduled at JL4S p. m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, with winners advancing to the Kokomo regional tourney the foliowingvweek.

No-Hitter By Ellenberger As Klenk’s Wins Norm Ellenberger, Klena’s butler, tossed a no-hit, no-run game Thursday night as Decatur blanked Club Manhattan, 5-0. in a Federation legaue game al Worthman field. It was a near-perfect chore by Ellenberger, as only one man reached base for the visitors, when the Decatur hurler walked Hammond, his pitching opponent, in the sixth inning. Ellenberger also fanned 12 batters, ineluding the last six men to face him. Klenk’s scored the on:y run needed in the third inning when Cillig walked, stole second, and scored on William's single. Four more scored in the. fifth on three walks, a hit batsman, and safeties by Cillig, Williams and Hoehammer. Klenk’s will play at Payne in another league game Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Braves Defeat Bluffton Moose In Pony League Scoring three runs in the top of the seventh toning, the Decatur Braves registered’ a 14-11 victory over the Bluffton Moose in a Pony League game Thursday night at Bluffton. The Braves scored five times in the first inning, but th* Moose pulled into a 5-5 tie in the fourth. The Braves hod another five-run outburst in the Tourth but the Moose worked imck to an 11-11 tie in the sixth. Next Monday’s Pony League games have been changed to Bluffton because of the Little League area tourney to be played here next week. The Decatur Braves will play the Bluffton Elka and the Decatur Cardinals will meet the Bluffton Moose, both at Bluffton.
