Controversy Grows Over State School Says Four Employes Have Not Been Fired INDJANAPOUS (INS) —. The Indiana mental health carousel whirled again today as pr. Margaret R. Morgan, state mental" health commissioner, said that four employes believed to have been busted from the Muscatatuck state school never have been fired. Instead, their posts have been reclassified but no steps have been taken to replace them or to slash their salaries, according to Dr. Morgan. J They are Russell Chailie. administrative assistant to superintendent Alfred Sasser, and Margaret Hauser, Ruby Woods and Ada Trinkle. all attendants. The controversy is the outgrowth ot a patronage battle between superintendent Gasser and Wilbur Bannister, ninth district Republican chairman. ' Governor George N. Craig once ordered that Bannister have control of the jobs at the institution, but has withdrawn from that position after complaints from the Indiana mental health association and other groups. (C»tl»»H Frew Pur We) 2. He made it clear he opposes a proposal by the . senate agriculture committee to boost price wpports on dairy products back to 85 percent. 4. He Indicated he favors giving states a share in the federal gas tgg as they, assume more responsibility for highway construction. 5. He could not recall whether ft was Wisconsin Gov. Walter Kohler, rather than Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy (R-Wls.) who talked to him in the 1952 campaign about deleting lengthy praise of Gen. George C. Marshall from a Milwaukee speech. Today the President again praised Marshall in the highest terms, lauding him as one of the greatest patriots and most selfless man he has ever known. 6. He implied he had made his choice of a new TVA chairman, and said his name will be announced before congress adjourns. 7. He revealed he plans to leave for Denver for a brief vacation and some speech-making In The west about Aug. 15-17, a week or so later than last year. Brokenburr now is obtaining information on the cost of the program and said he will have a complete report ready for the Sept. 21 meeting ot the Indiana legislative commission. Even now the state highway commission is having trouble matching federal road allowances and the grant next year jumps to s2l million. The allowance this year was only $13.6 million. U* S. 31 bisects the state from Louisville to South Bend. Road 52 crosses diagonally through Lafayette, Indianapolis, to Cincinnati. Road 41 is a Chicago-to-Evansville route. Road 37 passes through Fort Wayne, Indianapolis and Tell 04ty. In th* past, the general assembly has x not ordered the highway commission to undertake specific construction. But is appears that a combination of Republican legislators hostile to Governor George N. Craig, a toll road proponent, and- Democratic lawmaker* may muster enough votes to enact Brokenburr’s’ program. The Indiana toll road' commission already has drafted preliminary plans for a north-south toll road from Chicago to a point three miles west of Plainfield, which is on Road 4, the National Road. Forks to Louisville .and Cincinnati had been considered but a decision was delayed.
