SALEM W. 8. C. S. CONDUCTS MEETING r The July meeting of the W. S. C. 8. of the Salem. Methodist church was held Thursday afternoon with, Mrs. Carl Schug as hostess. Mrs. Charles Burkhart • presided over the meeting. * The meeting opened with the group singing, "Love .Lifted Me" and prayer by Mrs. Huldah Tickle. Devotions were given by Mrs. Merle Riley and the lesson study, "Women and t|ie Rural Community.'” was presented by Mrs, Rue Strayer. An article from the "World Outlook” ‘magasine entitled, "The Methodists of Korea,” was read by Mrs. Riley. After the business session Mrs. Strayer presented the following program: "Sending she Light,” sung by the group; two poems, “It Will Show in Your Face” and "Encouraging itim," by Mrs. Austin Merriman; solo by Lennie Schug, accompanied by the auto harp. The program ended with Mrs. Harley Davis singtnggb' My Father Wajches Over Me.” Mrs. Strayer then held two Bible contests and read the poem '■’Life.” The meeting closed with the Lord’s prayer recited in unison. Delicious refreshments were served to the 12 members and two children present; SIXTEEN ATTEND YOUTH ASSEMBLY Sixteen members of the Bethany E. U B.church returned yeeterday from Oakwood park, Syracuse, ■where they attende.l the youth assembly of the Indiana conference north. There were 617 delegates registered. Held simultaneously were nine courses for young people, a course for youth counselors, a course for ministers and a laboratory school for workers with children. Those attending from the local Bethany church were the officers ot the youth fellowship: president, Roger Eichenauer; vice-president, Ralph Thomas; secretary, Mara Dee Striker; treasurer, Sara Brunnegraf. LEWIS SHEETS ’ OBSERVES BIRTHDAY Lewis Sheets of Union township was honored, recently with a surprise birthday party held at his home. . James Newton has returned from Chicago, where she attended the 46th national conVenton -of Delta Theta Tau sororitv. It was held at the Drake hotel July 7 through Jiily 11. Mrs. Newton reported that two new national philanthropic, projects were adopted: they are the Knott county. Kentucky nursing service and the Magnetic Springs foundation at Magnetic Springs O. A total of $112,495.88 was spent hy the 193 active chapters in their local communities. Alpha Tau chapter, Cincinnati, 0., won the philanthropic award. Mrs. Graham Roland of San Diego. Calif., was elected national president. A party at the Edgewater Beach hotel, a luncheon at the Chez. Paree and a banquet and dance at the Drake hotel were among the social actfvitiehT ’ ~~ " 1 The national convention of 1955 will be held at Fort Wayne. —■ MRS. Tell -to the Nations.” (An outline of Re< Bird district territory and general conditions was given by Mrs. Hazel Foor, and Mrs. Ellen Williamson and Miss Betty Miller spoke on the Cumberland district territory, churches and new visions. Mrs. Mary Merriman covered the fourfold church development program of the Cumberland district including the community and health service projects. Miss Janet Brown told of the department of health and spiritual life of the Red Bird district after which Miss Veda Williamson briefly outlined the activity of the eight different stations of the Red Bird and Cumberland districts. Mrs. Mildred Smith then compared the work of the two districts bringing out the different tasks covered. The last article was given by Mrs. Blanche Brown on the department of education. Miss Frieda Williamson read the scriptire lesson followed by Mrs. Florence Bauman bringing to the attention of the group the many unfinished tasks in this Jield after which site led in the closing prayer. ’ , The business session was conducted by the president. Mrs, Mildred Smith, during —which time Mrs. Haizel Foor and the president gave a brief summary of the W. S. W. S. convention which was held at Oakwood park. Lovely refreshments were served by the hostess to 16 members and four guests. ' » - ■ HATFiELD-BULTEMEIER ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED The engagement of Miss Alice Hatfield to Wilmer Bultemeier, son of Mr. and (Mrs. Lawrence. Bultemeier of Decatur, has l>een announced by her parents, (Mr. and Mrs. James Hatfield of Ossiap. Miss Hatfield, a graduate of Ossian high school and Manchester college, is on the dietary staff at the Lutheran hospital in Fort Wayne. Her fiance was graduated from Hoagland high school and international Business college and is employed by the” Adams County Farm Bureau Co-op, Berne. —r .*■_ ENTERTAIN GIRLS WHO WILL MAKE JULY iMis Dorothy Schncpt and Miss Rosemary (Miller entertained With a dessert party at the home last evening for the girls who will make the GeCode club trip to New York City, The affair was a get-acquainted party and the honored guest. Mr. Miller of Miller Totns. Indianapolis, sponsoring the trip, gave an itinerary of the event. Thirty-five girls, including ©ex girls 'and non-GeCode club members, are planning to make the trip. The group will leave Decitur by ljus Sunday morning, July 25. in the evening light refreshments "were served by the hostesses and each girl received a gift with the compliments of the GeCode club. Tuesday evening at seven-thirty o’clock the W. S. W. S. of the Trinity E. U. B. church will meet at the church. Miss Lucille Beavers, leader, will review the book, “Beyond These Borders.” Hostesses will be Mrs. Oscar Brown, Mrs. Carl Anderson, Mrs. Jay Yost and Mrs. Floyd Engle. The W. M. A. of the Mount Victory U. B. church will present Byron U- Dotson, of Lima. 0., as a speaker for their temperance program. Dotson will tell his life story and also show pictures of his trip through Palestine. The meeting will be held Sunday evening at eight o’clock at the church, located miles north of 224 on the Indiana and Ohio state line. The Ladies aid of Union Chapel church will meet at the church all day Thursday. A potluck dinner will be served at noon and the day will be spent sewing and quilting. The Antioch LutherafF church of Hoagland will sponsor an ice cream social and bazaar on the church lawn at five-thirty o'clock Saturday afternoon. In case of rain the event will be held in 'the church -basement. The menu will consist of chicken, weiners, sloppy joe sandwiches, noodles, potato salad, baked beans, pie. cake, ice cream, and coffee.
At the Adams county memorial hospital: Mr. and Mrs. Emmitt Owens, Monroe, became the parents of a 6 pound. 6 ounce baby son at 8:50 a.m. Saturday. At 2 p.m. Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Diehl. Monroe, became the parents, of a baby son. He weighed 7 pounds and 1.3 ounces. A baby son was born, at 2:07 a m. Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stroud, city. He weighed 7 pounds and Iff ounces. A baby daughter, weighing 6 pounds and 6 ounces, was bom to Mr. and Mrs., Charles Stonestreet, city. Sunday at 12:43 a.m. Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Hawbaker, Geneva, became the parents of‘a baby girl at 8:25 p.m. Sunday. She weighed 7 pounds and 14% ounces. At 12:35 p.m. Sunday a baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnson. Monroeville. She weighed' 8 pounds and 7 ounces. Mr. and Mrs. Harmond Cox, city, became the parents of a 5 pound. 7’4 ounce baby daughter at 10:09 p in. Sunday.
