Tree Placement Insulates Homo MANHATTAN, Kas., (INS) — . Homes can b« made several de * grees cooler in summer and warmer in winter through careful selection and placement of trees. - I* R. Quinlan, professor of landscape design at Kansas State College, says trees should be planted to the southwest so they will moat effectively, shade the house, terrace, and paved “'areas during the hottest part of the day. However, he warns, shade tnees should always be deciduous (those which lose their leaves annually), so that in wintei- the house will receive the maximum sunshine. Baby Tries Toys At Four Months ITHACA, N. Y. (INS) — Admits have fun buying toys for baby, but don’t expect baby to have fun with the toys right away. According to child specialists at Corneil University, baby won’t play with toys until he’s about four months old. Before then, he enjoys playthings with his eyes, but not with his hands. In other words, he follows with his eyes first and then uses his hands and eyes together. He may hold a rubber ring or a small animal, but it'll take about two months before he reglly iearns to simke that pretty rattle. . f ~ Women & Tires By International News Service Women are an important buying factor in alnjost every product today — even auto tires. The B. F. Goodrich Co. sayß it has learned that in some YJ. S. areas women infiuenced 45 percent of the purchases of its tubeless tires last year. As a result, the concern is aiming car tire tips at women. One major rule: Never put in or take air out of tires when they’re hot. The best time to have tires check- , ed is when you’re just starting out for the day. £ —-
