West Monroe street, will hold its annual father-sob banquet Thursday night at 4: 15 in the parish hall auditorium. Co. will present its final concert of the season Sunday evening at 7:30 o’clock at the Trinity Evangelical United Brethren church in this city. D. E. Foreman, choir president, states the choir has performed before a total of df.OOQ persons In its seven appearances since last September. David Embler. director, states that Sunday’s program for the “home folks” will be in two parts, the first of sacred choral compositions. and the second part of popular favorites in the Church’s social hall. Selective Service Official In City U'aptain George H. Warner, from the manpower division of the state) selective service office, visited the local board Tuesday afternoon during one of Its meetings. Two Grade Teachers Are Hired By Board The hiring of two second grade teachers by the Decatur school board was annojiheed today by W. Guy* Brown, superintendent of-pub-lic schools. Miss Miriam Erickson, formerly of Chicago, has two years teaching experience at Maple Park, 111. She also has recevied her master’s degree fjom the University of Wisconsin. She is filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Miss Florence Haney. Mrs. Irene Friedley, formerly a resident of Adams county, and a graduate of Kirkland high school, has several years experience in teaching at Convoy, Ohio. Mr A Friedley is finishing work on her bachelor’s degree at Manchester college this summer. Savings Bond Sales Reported For County U.S. savings bonds sales in MayIn Adams county amounted to $49 - 516, T. F. City Swimming Pool Opened Here Today Deyatur’s swimming pool openad today. Hubfert Zerkel, Jr., supervisor, announced. The water level has now been raised to the desired point, and the rust whicli collected in the pipe over the winter has settled and been filtered from the water, Zerkel announced. Water temperature is still very low, Zerkel said, and- children were advised to swim not more than one hour at a time, because of the possibility of cramps. Zerkel pointed out that the city council had made a change in the rules last night limiting use of the pool to residents of Adams county and four guests. ——

Catholic Men Holy Hour Here Sunday Members of the southeast <Hs- | trict of national council of Catholic men will attend a holy hour in St. Mary’s Catholic church Sun day at 2:30 p.m.. Lawrence Beckmeyer, president of the Decatur chapter announced today. Approximately 200 men from seven parishes will attend the holy hour. This is the first time that the group has met in Decatur. The appropriations. introduced two weeks ago, were held up until tonight because of quorum of council members was not present. The appropriations approve tluy? spending of the following amounts of money from the present. funds of the city of Decatur: general hind (for fire department), $480; street and sewer department, $5,387.39; revolving sewer fund, $27,862.29. Applications from the following persons for rural line light and power extensions were referred to the superintendent of th city light and power department and the committetLon light and power: Arnold Spiegel, <Mr. and Mrs. Jay C. Osborn. and Jeromej-L. Rumschlag. An agreement with W.altbr, Edgar and Minnie Clem, amounting to $409.23, was approved by the council. The Clems agreed to pay tor construction of a primary light and power line to their property, which will then be maintained and belong to the city light and power company. Twenty-four residents of Decatur petitioned the city offering to pay up to $175 per lot in return for ! the city’s building a 12th street extension on the Porter-Homewood , sewer.
