WINNERS ARIE LISTED FOR FLOWER SHOW ’ The Decatur flower show, uponsored by the Decatur Garden club and the Hose Garden club, was held Saturday at the public library. Co-chairmen of the affair were Mrs. Hersel Nash and Mrs. G. D. iMacLean of the Decatur club and Mrs. Gerald Durkin and Mrs. Clem Kortenber of the Rose club. The sweepstakes ribbon in the horticultural class was awarded to Mrs. Harold Owens of Monmiouth, and IMrs. Hersel Nash of this city was presented the sweepstakes ribbon in the arrangement class. Schaper, a graduate of Woodburn high school, is an employe of the Woodburn Equity exchange. COUPLE BELLED ON FIRST ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. James Merriman, of Decatur, route 3. were surprised last night with a belling in celebration of their first wedding anniversary by members of the Adams county rural youth. Those taking part in the belling were Mr. and Mrs. Warren Kneuss, Sue and ’Row-ena Merriman, Donna Schieferstein, Virginia Gerke, Shirley Gerke, Barbara Kelley, Barbara Wolfe, Leona Bobnke, Paul Busse, Raymond Worden, Roger Ripley, Jim Wilson. Gerald Sipe, Earl and Carl Yoder, Dallas Neuenschwander. Gloria Koeneman, Roger Koeneman, Sally McCullough, Bob Drew, Dick Heller, Jr., Earl Rich, Ned, Don, and Bill Kipfer, Jerome Lehman, Lester Meshberger, Carl Bluhm, Legora Markle, Jean Ann Potts, Herb Marbach, Sharon Neal, Lois Wallace, Helen Baker, Shirley Fenstennaker, Marilyn Kiefer, and Anna K. ROBERT BEERY LEADER FOR GUILD ** Mrs. Robert Beery was leader for the June meeting of the Women’s guild of the Magley Evangelical and Reformed church. Mrs. Ella Scherry opened the meeting with a piano prelude after which Mrs. Beery presented a speech, entitled ‘‘Responsibility of Parents to Their Children." A hyfiin was sung followed with scripture reading by Mrs. Robert Mankey. Prayer was then offered by Mrs. John Borne and a vocal solo, “I Would Be True," ms sung by Mrs. Leroy Koi ter. The speaker for the evening was Judge Myles Parrish, who spoke on "Our Responsibility to Our Children.” The group sang a hymn after which the prayer from the prayer calendar was given by Mrs. Beery. -During the .business, session ..the: educational and stewardship department’s reports were given. The meeting was closed with the Lord’s prayer. ’ (Refreshments were served to those present by the chairman and the committee in charge. MISS MARY JOAN NORTHUP SURPRISED WITH SHOWER Miss Mary Joan Northup was pleasantly surprised Sunday afternoon with a shower given by Mrs. Richard Fiechter and Mrs. Earl Shelton at the former’s home. Miss Northup and Leonard Fox will be united in marriage June 12. A cement alley is being constructed between Mercer avenue and Winchester street. The Yost Construction company is doing the work. Dr. James Bixler of Berne is attending the international optical fair in Chicago and will go on from there to Seattle to attend the Rotary International convention. Mrs. Mae Ketchum of this city is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Fred Husey in Portland. Army Enlistment May Be Made In Groups Young men planning to enlist tn the army will be interested to know that they may now enllat In groups of five or more, and be assured of training together for the firtft eight weeks of basic training. A recant ruling by headquarters, fifth army, also states that platoons of not less than 40 nor more than 50 may also enlist to train together.
