WOMEN’S BUILD MEETS WEDNESDAY EVENING The Women’s guild of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church met Wednesday evening in the chubch parlors with Mrs. Adolph Weldler as program leader. Mrs. Wilbur Lengerich will be hostess for the Profit and Pleasure Home Demonstration club at seven-thirty o’clock Wednesday evening. The W. S. C. S. of the Calvary E.U.B. church will meet in the church basement Friday evening at seven-forty-five o’clock. The Methodist W.8.C.8. will hold a luncheon at the church Thursday afternoon at one o’clock. of the new officers will be held and Mrs. Amos Yoder will report on the Milwaukee convention. J The Women’s association of the First Presbyterian church will sponsor a rummage sale in the church basement Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Good used clothing. both summer and winter, and shoes will be for sale. The Church of the Nazarene will hold its monthly missionary meeting Wednesday evening at seven-thirty o’clock. The Queen of the Rosary Study club will meet at the home of Mrs. Severin Schurger Thursday evening o at eight o’clock. Friday evening at eight o’clock the Union Township Farm Bureau will hold a meeting at the Immanuel Lutheran church. The speaker will be from the Wayne Co-op and a cake baking contest, between white butter cake or chocolate cake, will be held. Movies will be shown and refreshments will be served.
Air National Guard Crash Toll Now 11
DULUTH. Minn. (INS)— The death toll in the crash of a Minnesota air national guard C-47 aboard rose to 11 Sunday night with the death of another airman in a Duluth hospital. ' The latest victim was Staff Sgt. Donald Marty. 25, of Duluth. Nine airmen were killed outright when the aircraft crashed one mile south of Duluth airport during a landing approach in foggy weather last Monday.'

Maurice Haney, who visited his sister. Miss Florence Haney, In Decatur and is now returning to his home at Tacoma, Wash., writes from Newcastle, Wyo., that he is enjoying the scenery and various places of interest enroute. Miss Gaynel Lankenau, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lankenau, arrived home for the summer from Indiana university, where she was enrolled as a freshman in the school of music. Miss Lankenau plans to continue her studies this summer at the university's Fort Wayne center. William Bowers has completed his freshman year at Marquette University, Milwaukee. Wis., and is home for the summer vacation. John Hoithouse has returned to Chicago after spending the weekend here with his family. He is completing his schooling as a chiropodist. Ron Murphy, who has attended Murray State college, Kentucky, the past year, is home to spend the summer with his liarents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Murphy of Decatur. He was a member of the college band, choir and orchestra. Mr. and Mrs. David Adams of Greenville, 0., Mr. and Mrs. Walter Deitsch. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Deitsch and daughter. Kristine, all of St. Marys. 0., and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Miller of this city spent Sunday with Madge Barton of Huntington. They also attended a flower show held in the Huntington college building. Mrs. <Ralph Tyndall and daughter, Miss Joyce of Bluffton visited here with relatives last evening. Mr. Tyndall and son Phil are enjoying a week or two at fishing camp in northern Minnesota. Miss Joyce is planning a trip abroad during the summer. She and friends from Miami University, where she is a junior, will sail July 2 for England. After a tour of that country they will go to the continent, visiting most of the countries before returning. Miss Rose .Ellen Miller and Miss Jacquelyn Warren left Sunday for a three-week trip to California. Enroute they will visit two former Decatur residents, Mrs. Henriette Bricker and Miss Leona Uleman, in Arizona.

A 7 pound, 9 ounces baby son was born to Mr. and -Mrs. WilbertThieme., city, at 9:50 p.m. Saturday. At 1:47 a.m. Sunday a baby daughter, weighing 8 pounds and 10 ounces, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Funk, Preble. (INS) — Leonard Kunzler, of LaCrosse, will continue to head the Indiana volunteer firemen’s association as a result of an election .during the organization’s annual convention in Clinton. Bert Moser, of Bluffton, was named vice president, and Harry Fries, Koontz Lake, secretary.
John Peters Seeks Slate Nomination • Present Treasurer Asks Renomination ' INDIANAPOLIS (INS)—The hat of John Peters, of New Albany, is in the ring today for renomination as treasurer of state. He is a Republican. Peters outlined an eight-point program: 1. No governmental unit should collect ta/es to create a huge surplus. 2. Set a maximum that the state surplus could or should reach. 3. -Hold this balance at a specific top level by giving a discount on the gross income tax. 4. Abolish the state property tax. 5. Use the surplus bonus fnnd to pay a bonus to the Korean veterans or return the surplus to the taxpayers through the discount method. 6. Give local tax relief to the cities and towns by direct appropriation on a temporary basis only. 7. Build a state office building, providing the planning is wisely done and it is properly built. 8. Repay to the highway fund money that was .borrowed several years ago. This could then be used for road improvement.
Cloverblofsom The Cloverblossom 4-H club held its fifth regular meeting recently. The meeting was called to order by Evelyn Mann, president. The pledges were led by Janice VanEmon and the roll call was answered by naming their favorite magazine. Group singing was led by Evelyn Mann. Anna Margaret Beeler gave a demonstration on how to an extension cord, and Evetyn Mann gave a demonstration on luncheons. Recreation and refreshments were enjoyed and the meeting-adjourned. Roving Rangers The Monmouth Roving Rangers 4-H club held their regular meeting May 25 at the Monmouth high school. The pledges were led by Leo Busick and the minutes of the last meeting were read by Kathleen Boerger. A short talk on the care of baby chicks was given -by Janet Busick. An interesting talk on electricity was given by Richard Lewton. Refreshments were served by Jeanet.te Fuelling, Boy Fuelling, Dale Fuelling, Herman Witte, Jim Boerger, Leo Busick, and Larry Busick. The meeting was then adjourned. Kut-ups The second regular meeting of the Kirkland Kut-Ups 4-H club was held May 24 at the Pleasant Dale parish hall. The meeting was called to order by the president. Marilyn Arnold. Pledges were led by Kathleen Adler and Janet Shady. The roll call was answered with “how we could make money for our club.” Initiation of new members and installation of officers was then held. Refreshments were served by Carol Heller, Doris, Donna, and Karen Cauble. The next meeting will be held June 18 at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Dale parish hall. Happy Hustlers The third regular meeting of the Washington Happy Hustlers 4-H club was held May 25 at the home of Phyllis Smith. The meeting was called to order by the president, Gretchen Schnepp, and the pledges were led by Sushn Frank and Mary Schwaller. The roll call was answered by "what are you going to do after you are 21.” The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. A talk on health and safety was given by Chloe Ellen Neuenschw-and-er. Group singing was led by Carolyn Mitchel. The special feature of the meeting was given by Carolyn Mitchel and the initiation of the new members was held. They are as follows: Arvilla Smith, Judy Vore, Julie Sanders, Carole Ann Miller, Susie Frank, Judy Arnold. and Mary Schwaller. The meeting was adjourned and refresh ments were served by Phyllis Smith, Gretchen and Gyneth Schnepp. Doris Ann Bluhm, and Arvilla Smith. Variety Farmers The Washington township Variety Farmers met recently at the home of Jan Smith. The meeting was called to order by James Taylor and pledges were led by Alan Miller and Larry Lautzenheiser. Bill Kershner spoke on dairies and Jan Smith gave a speech concerning rabbits. The meeting was then adjourned and refreshments served by the committee in charge.
