The award, a cash college srholarship for the school of the winner’s choice. Was made by Fort Wayne Newspapers. Stuckey is a carrier for the Fort Wayne Jour-nal-Gazette. The cash amounts to 5150 plus ah additional dollar for each week the winner has carried newspapers. Stuckey's award totalled about >350. His serectlon was made on the basis of grades in school, service, finances, courtesy and citizenship. Don Stover Is Named Kroger Store Manager Don Stover, tor the last two years manager of the Kroger store at Geneva, has been named manager of the Decatur Kroger stofe, it as learned today. Stover is married and Mr. and Mrs. Stover have three children, two boys and a girl. They will move to Decatur as soon as they locate a home. Stover has been a Kroger employe tot the last six yeare. The new -manager replaces Wilbur Yocki, who left the employ of the Kroger Co. Planes Thrown Info Fight At Defense Post French Planes Are Thrown Into Fight For Vital Defense HANOI (INS)„—Xrench t| K hte,/ planes were thrown Into the battle for a vital Red river delta defense post only 30 miles south of Hanoi today. The Vietnamese defenders of fort at Chonoi in the Hungyen sector, beat off several violent assaults by Communist-led Vletminh rebels durtnr the night. The Reds hit thb post—manned by only a company of Vietnamese — in battalion strength for the fifth consecutive night. Chonoi covers the communication lines to the highway and railroad between Hanoi and Haiphong over which the flow of American military aid must travel. The fighter planes strafed the Vietmlnh positions in an effort to knock out the mortars which are pouring fire on the fort. A high command 1 spokesman also reported that French air power had scored direct hits on a large Vinetminh troop concentration only thirteen miles southeast of Hanot, the prize city of the ricerich delta. The air strike, carried out by more than s(f fighters and bombers, was termed . “massive.” The bombers dropped thousand pound bombs. Further southeast of Hanoi, the French Union forces have completed their powerful clean-up of the Vietmlnh forces which had in filtrated the defense perimeter around Phuly. i The combined air-ground assault forced the Vletminh to retreat for refuge into the limestone hills south of the Day river. The French operation also effectively halted the major rebel attack on the fort at Yenphu. The mopping up operation was part of the new French plan—ordered by Phris —to defend the entire delta area and cleanout as many of the rebel infiltrators as possible.
