Senator Ferguson * Backs Ike's Stand Sides With Ike On McCarthy Question WASHINGTON (INS) —Another high senate Republican leader sided with President Eisenhower today in the battle over what the White House has called "usurpation" of executive authority by Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy. After visiting Mr. Eisenhower at the White House, senate GOP policy committee chairman Homer Ferguson. (Mich.) declared that members of congress “should not invite everybody who has a complaint to come first to congress.” During the army-McCarthy hearings, the Wisconsin Republican has called on federal employes to come to him with ahy inforinatioh they might have about corruption or subversion. ? ' . On Saturday, senate COP leader William F. Kndwlnnd (Calif.), and Sen. Alexander Smith (R-N.J.) both criticized for his stand. Today, Ferguson declared: “I look at this thing as a joint task that can only be solved by joint effort. "The way I feel Is that congressional investigations should try to, and should work with, the executive. "I'm sure the President and all under him. if requested, would furnish all the necessary information so that congress can do its proper investigating. The biggest single tragedies occurred Tn Illinois, where six persons were killed in a two-car collision near Springfield; in Wisconsin, where five persons died in an auto-train crash,; and in Minnesota, where nine national guardsmen died in the crash of a C-47 during an attempted landing at Duluth.
