Martinez Is Winner Over Chuck Davey CHICAGO L’P — Victorious Vince iMartlhez called today for a shot at the welterweight title while his technical knockout victim, Chuck Davey, , faced retirement. “Chuck is through," said Davey’s manager, Hee Knowles, after Wednesday nightie’ bne-sided televised fight in which the now-de-flated TV Idol was floored three times and stopped in the seventh round. Davey Wouldn't isgree immediately — he wants a little time to think it over. “1 don’t want to make up my mind now,” said Davey?- “I'm going home Thursday and maybe Friday or Saturday I'll decide.” But Knowles repeated, “He is through. He won’t take that Los Angeles match with Art Aragon (scheduled for July I).” Tn contrast to Davey’s dejection, Martinez was beaming and bri;mming with confidence in the wake of his easy triumph. With a breezy air, he asked tor a shot at welter champ Kid Gavllan and

predicted hi’d beat him. “Gavllan doesn’t move too well,’* said the Patorson\ N.J., scrapper who currently is not even ranked among the top’ 10 in the waiter division. “I hit Davey with my right all night. No, net. all night, and I probably couldn’t hit Gavilan like that.-hut I know I can beat him.”/ Martinez, a 2-1 betting choice, found the pawing, dancing Davey an easy target for he smashing right hands. Davey went down once in the first found, twice in the third, and once in the sixth—one of those times In the third round from a slip. iVince’s terrifio barrage with
