26 Reports Held Up By Craig's Orders Irregularities In State Are Withheld INDIANAPOLIS VP — Twentysix reports or irregularities discovered by state accountants checking the books of Indiana governmental units are being held up because of Governor Craig's executive order banning their publication during the May 4 primary cam- : palgn. Robert R. Wickersham, chief examiner for the Indiana state board of accounts, said today three of them involve state agencies and 23 involve irregularities in 10 | counties. Wickersham would not name the > counties. He said Marion county was not among them. Craig issued an order several I weeks ago that hereafter the board must withhold publication ot all > such -reports. Craig based his or- ; der on a 1917 state law allowing a ! governor to declare moratoriums | of arbitrary length before pri- , maries and elections. Craig said he did it to prevent use of material from the reports for political purposes. Wickersham said the delayed reports cover a five year period from 1948 through 1953. He did not know when the rei ports might be released for publication. One is ready right now. ' Most of the eases have not been in- ' volved in hearings yet aijd therefore would n/it be in press release form at this time. 1 Wickersham said the hearings 1 have been held up because of the ' governor's order. They have not 1 progressed to the stage yet_ where ■ it can be determined how many are involved in criminal liability ! for submission to grand juries and ] how many are of civil nature for s reference to the state attorney ; general, Wickersham said. ! U. S.-CANADIAN < Contlaned From Fsge Dae) --- ea warning system "generally to the north” of Canada’s settled areas. Cole said the new scientific discoveries “promise to revolutionize the science of military defense as much as nuclear bombs have revolutionized offensive warfare.’’ He <ird not go into detail. TOP BUSINESS (Contianed From Page Clem D. Johnston, Roanoke, Va., holds almost identical views with Bowditch, except he believes lhe upswing already is underway.
