To Adams County Voters: As my campaign for the nomination for Judge is drawing to a close, I desire to take this means of thanking you for the courtesies extended me during the campaign. It was my hope to call on every voter for support for this office. This 1 was unable to do which I greatly regret. I realize that the ringing of door bells sometimes caused inconveniences to many of you also. This I likewise regret. So I want each and all of you to know that I wish this letter to take the place of a personal visit ! and that 1 now ask your support as sincerely as I would had I been able to call at your homes, or offices and places of employment.

French Troops Hit Harassing Red Positions Attack Machinegun Nests Harassing Defensive Posts HANOI, Indochina UP — French troops at Dien Bien Phu surged from their trenches in a tropical rainstorm today and attacked Communist machinegun nests that had been harassing their defensive positions. Commando - type squads of 12 men each, led by veteran Foreign Legion sergeants and corporals, splashed through knee-deep mud to silence the guns covering the area where French and American planes drop supplies. The raiding parties, operating in all directions, struck out after a night of sharp and bitter clashes at the edge of the defense perimeter and tore into the enemy machinegun nests with knives and bayonets. The French high command said it was tod soon to tell whether the attacks ordered by Dien Bien Phu commander Brig. Gen. Christian De Castries had silenced permanently ahy of the rebel posts. While the shock tfoopi Were cleaning out the enemy gun positions a 3,000-man force of French Union troops was cleaning out Communist pockets within 30 miles of the besieged fortress. The French high command has denied the force pushing up from the south was a “relief column,” but reports from the front said it was mopping up rebels within a 15-miie radius of the road hub of Muong Khoua, 35 miles below Dien Bien Phu. Torrential downpours and freakish win conditions kept French air action down to a minimum Over Dien Bien Phu today. But over northeast Viet Nam, French pilots in U.S.-Supplied bombers and fighters raked enemy supply routes in strafitig and bombing attacks. Enemy guerilla actio* increased in the vital Red River delta area around Hanoi and it was disclosed that a 10-man U. 8. technical and medical team ia unable to carry out its mission of investigating sanitary conditions and setting up medical aid stations. The American escort carrier Bellehu Wood, on loan to the French, arrived in Indochinese waters Thursday night with reinforcements of badly needed planes to bolster the exhausted defenders of Dien Bien Phu. now in their 49th day of constant siege. A naval spokesman said the 11,-000-ton Belleau Wood carried 20 Grumman Hellcat shipboard fighters and Curtiss Helldiver divebombers. JACOBS SPEAKS the toastmaster, Lewis L.
