Color Blind Will Enjoy Color TV ' To Open Up Exciting New World Os Color CHICAGO, UP — Color television will open up an exciting new world of color to the approximately 1ff.000,000 persons in the United States estimated to have deficient color vision to some degree, according to a group of research scientists here. “A person with deficient color vision will enjoy the colors in TV probably more than he has in movies or any other medium of color reproduction because their vividness will be greater," reported Admiral Corp, color engineers. "Unless a person is totally color blind -a medical rarity—he or she will enjoy color television." Two controls on the set will enable the viewer to adjust hues to the point Where they will look normal and pleasing to him and still be correct for persons with normal

color perception, the experte eaid. One adjustment, saturation control, will deepen colors and make theriTmorenntenee’ and vivid. Red, for instance, can be made deeper or lighter. The other adjustment, phase control, will alter existing colors, changing red, for example, all the way from a deep red to virtually a pink. The most common form of color blindness is red-green. Blindness of blue, yellow, or both, is extremely rare. A much larger percentage of men than women has deficient color vision. Everyone is color blind to fine detail or very small objects, the researchers pointed out. In color television only the relative brightness of fine detail in colored objects is transmitted. Therefore, everyone sees fine detail exactly the same way—normal and color blind alike. Soldier-Technicians In Guided Missiles Army Recruits Are Carefully Screened WASHINGTON, UP—Go around the Pentagon and cup an ear to some of the army’s eoldier-tech-nicians and you wonder If maybe you aren't up in the stratosphere. You hear things like: "Accelerometers, multivibrators and oscilloscopes." Those long words are the tools of the trade for the nice kids who work in guided missile gr related fire control electronics courses. The lad who wants to know how to guide a missile and work with radar or anti-aircraft weapons has to show a desire to learn the higher lessons of science before he signs in. He is carefully screened and, if he comes through on his first examination, he is sent to the signal corps school at Fort Monmouth, N, J. . After the kid has won his scientific spurs he might be sent to the ordnance school at the Aberdeen proving school in Maryland, or to the guided missile schooj at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Ala. The fellows who graduate from these schools, according to the Pentagon, make up the first-aid crews for the latest guided missiles—such as those called "Nike.” As the Pentagon puts it: “Precision maintenance is their specialty. They forever will be known as “Nike Nursemaids.' They are trou-ble-shooters." The,, Pentagon says that the course for these intelligent kids is interesting. First a boy spends about 24 weeks at Fort Monniotrtfi where he picks up the rudiments of electricity, and radar. The last few weeks of the course teach the student the complicated business of fire control and the intricacies of electronic equipment. The guided missile kids get'their advanced learning byway of an introduction to hydraulics, pneumatics and missile component equipment. They have to like the assignment before they get into that part of the service. And they have to show their mettle. Sometimes some of the kids are washed out. can’t make the grade in what is really a tough course. But their knowledge isn’t wasted. It can be put to work in the outside world where it will do the most good. So, either way, Uncle Sam can’t lose. Easy Come, Easy Go EAST HARTFORD, Conn., UP— Police questioned a 12-year-old boy about what he did with $5 stolen from a home. “Put it in a pinball machine," he replied.
