It you want to keep even on your sleeping hours, turn in an hour earlier tonight, for tomorrow night will be one hour short. 0 o_ — A newspaper headline read: "Unlikely Yanks Will Be Sent To IndoChina." That about eliminates any hope anyone might have held for a new pennant winner in the American League. 0 0 From their utterances and general make-up, it appears that Sen. McCarthy and Struve Hensel, assistant secretary of defense, should settle the army scrap between themselves. 0 0 An estimate on preparing the whole country against H-bomb attack soars to three-hundred billion dollars, whatever such an amount might mean. After the money was spent, then someone would invent an I-bomb. —4« o►— Railroad crossings in the city will be repaired this spring and the approaches graded with the street. Motorists will appreciate the improvements, although a smooth railway crossing tempts many to span the tracks in high speed. —0 0 ' Although the Army-McCarthy televised hearing was one of the biggesF ever produced in Washington, it did not attract as much interest as the Kefauver hearings in 1952. To encourage all citizens to vote in important elections, the little kingdom will pay traveling expenses of all voters away from home. This may not be too costly to the government, since Belgium occupies only 11,000 square miles, an area about the size of Vermont. But just think what a vacation plan a gimilar arrangement would provide in the United States. There sure would be a lot of cross-couhtry traveling around election time, and a lot of political deals hatched in getting free transportation. __ *
Bloodletting Returns t<? Use
By HERMAN R BUNDESEN, M.D. IN George Washtagtons day, bloodletting on a wholesale scale was the treatment used for any ailment For the seriously ill patient, physicians removed a pint or sometimes as much as a tew quarts of blood. Since that time, however, bloodletting has fallen into disrepute, mainly because of Its misuse. Doctors are just now returning to the use of this technique for a certain few diseases. Advantages of Bloodletting When a patient suffers from heart failure, the blood Is dammed back because the heart is not working properly, and the heart has difficulty to pushing this large amount of blood around the body. Congestive heart failure can be greatly helped by the removal of a pint to a quart of Blood. The effect of this bloodletting may be almost miraculous in certain cases of heart failure. " This procedure Is also very helpful for those who suffer from certain types of blood diseases. in polycythemia, for example, there is an overproduction of red blood cells. Although toe little blood can be dangerous, too much blood or too many red blood cells can bring danger by too heavy a burden on the heart. Bloodletting
Few spy stories of fiction have been more thrilling than the experiences of Mrs. Viadmir Petrov, who was freed from Russian agents by the intervention of the Australian government. A short time ago her husband, a Russian diplomat, fled his post and delivered information about a spy ring to Australian officials. His wife issued a statement saying that he had been kidnapped, a statement many believed she had been forced to make. The Reds decided to return her to Moscow, She was dragged aboard a plane and Was heard to cry out for help. When the plane landed in another part of Australia police officials disarmed her guards and set her free. She chose to remain in Australia as a refugee. The whole affair may be a Red trick, but so far the story has a happy ending. 0 0 Ge# Report Tonight:— I ne report on tne survey or me Decatur school system should be highly interesting and informative to every local citizen, taxpayer and school patron. Dealing with existing buildings and facilities of the schools, the report of the educators and consultants from the department of education at Indiana University, will also view the city’s obligation and potential requirements of a school plant for the future. These pertinent facts and recommendations obtained from a city-wide survey by the trained school administrators and experts in evaluating community assets, will be revealed in a town-hall meeting at the high school this evening. School administration and operation will be another phase covered in the reports. Recognizing the growth in Decatur’s population and the heavy enrollment in kindergarten and the first grades of the public schools, what will the experts recomipend as feasible in meeting this responsibility to the children? Will they recommend a new building? Win they recommend more than one building? Will they recommend sites for buildings ? If additional buildings ire required, will an estimate of the cost be given ? Will a financing plan for building construction be recommended? Questions similar to the enteryour thinking when you discuss school problems. The answers will be given by the educational directors at tonight’s public meeting. ~
for a disease of this type can be quite beneficial Use of Phosphorus Recently, radioactive phosphorus was found to be very effective in treating this disease. However, when a patient is seriously ill with a sudden attack of polycythemia, bloodletting may bo an excellent treatment. A certain type of rare diabetes, In which there is bronze coloring of the skin as well as hardening of the liver, may also be helped by bloodletting. Thus, bloodletting is again of value in treating certain specific illnesses. QUESTION AND ANSWER Mrs. V. But it was a non-profit venture, she found, one which steeped her In ever mounting debt. She could easily have solved her financial problem by accepting wealthy Sewell Albright s oft-repeated offer of marriage, but Gale Taber loved only het two daughters, now of marriageable age. She had hoped that John-Mark Williamson. » substantial young farmer, might one day marry her dynamic daughter. Ravel, but to her dismay she learned that John-Mark wanted to wed her quiet daughter, Julia, • student nurse at their local hospital. CHAPTER EIGHT PETE MARSHALL had a night off and did not know what to do with it. For two weeks, ever since the rainy night when he had visited the Taber farm, he had been irritated by a curious restlessness. Now, tor no reason, be was made uneasy by seeing Julia Taber going quietly and efficiently about ner work m the hospital, because seeing ner made him remember her vivid sister whom he had no wish io remember. Now, as ne walked the street alone, determined not to admit to himself that loneliness existed, ne shrugged it oft and deeided that what he actually needed was a tot of very black coffee and a large wedge ot apple pie. There were two restaurants in the block, one white-Uled, steamy as to windows. The other nad a secret-looking entrance door ot black glass with an enormous copper handle. Dim orange light came wanly through a panel oi glass bricks. There was even a uniformed doorman, who stood inside out ot me cold, keeping ward with the studiedly atmospheric assistance at a velvet rope. From a niche a girl’s white arm beckoned and Pete surrendered his topcoat and old brown nat. "One, anywhere, just so tt’s not on the lee side ot a tenor saxophone,", Pete told the tuxedoed figure that appeared out ot the smoky shadow. « He glared at the huge bill oi fare the waiter unfolded before him. "How’s the apple pie?” he asked curtly, while the waiter twitched with embarrassment. "All our pastries are prepared by experts, doctor,’’ parroted the man. Then he leaned closer, held cut bis wrist. "Look, doctor," be whispered, "where you sewed it up. Hardly shows al aIL" Pete grinned up at him. "Yes, I remember you now. Chef on a rampage got a Cher you with a cleaver." "A knife. He keeps 'em like razors. Fbe, sirT Yez, sir. With cheese? Neuchatel? Camembert?” “No cheese. Coffee. Lots df coffee. Hot." The orchestra began playing then, a gliding sort of tune that made Pete's irritation return tike an itch in a new spot. He watched the diners as they rose to dance, packing the small, polished space so that they moved as a group, as

You like triumph and conquest It shows on you. It was plain when 1 saw you on that brown horse. You were soaking wet but you were gloating because you were making the brute obey you, just as you're gloating now.” She stopped still and fixed the cool insolence ot her eyes on tus face. "Over you? You are a rank egotist, aren’t you, Peter, me lad? You love you like everything.”—-
