BONITA P. VIAN WEDS EDWARD WOLPERT TODAY Bonita Pauline Vian and Edward J. Wolpert were united In marriage today at nine a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic church. The Rev. Robert Contant, assistant pastor, officiated at the exchange of vows and nuptial mass. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wolpert, brother and sis-ter-in-law of the bridegroom, attended the couple. The bride is owner of the Bellmont restaurant in thia city and Wolpert Is a member of the Decatur police force. MISS RITA 08TERMAN PLANS JUNE WEDDING ■Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Merriman of Kankakee and formerly of this city. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Ira W. Carpenter and the iate Ira W, Carpenter of Kankakee. The Rev. Herman Riffle performed the double-ring ceremony. » After they return from a wedding trip, they will reside in Kankakee. The new Mrs. (Merriman, a graduate of Kankakee high school, has been employed by the Jeffers and Mcßroom company in that city. The bridegroom graduated from Kankakee high school and the University of Illinois and is now affiliated with the Continental Casualty company in Chicago. ANNUAL SPRING DANCE HELD LAST EVENING About 75 couples attended the annual spring formal for fourth degree members of the Knights of Columbus "Wednesday night at the K. of C. home. Among the out of town guests were K. of C. district deputy Gerald T. Seifert and his wife of Huntington, Mr. and Mrs. John Logan of Fort Wayne and eight other Fort Wayne couples. Logan is faithful navigator of s the Anthony Wayne area. Julius Baker of this city was in charge of the dance arrangements. Herman Geimer is faithful navigator of the Decatur fourth degree group. The meeting of evening circle 2 of the Methodist church, which was to be held at the home of Mrs. Floyd Reed this evening, has been postponed.
The Monmouth P.T.K. Mothers Study club will meet Monday eve, ning at seven-thirty o'clock at the school. The Faithful Workers class of Union Chapel church will meet Friday evening at seven-thirty o’clock at the church for a class party. They will vote on a proposal to levy a twomill tax for twx> years, to raise 3260,000 with which to rework the court house and jail which a couple of engineers from Toledo declare they must do to prevent the building of new structures in the near future. A marriage license was issued at Bluffton yesterday to Bonita Pauline Vian of Decatur and Edward J. Wolpert, also of this city. Indianapolis Man Killed In Accident INDIANAPOLIS UP — Richaid McDuffee, 37, terminal manager for an Indianapolis freight lines, was killed Wednesday night when his expensive convertible crashed' into a small bridge while traveling at a speed estimated by state police at 70 to 80 miles per hour. The accident occurred at 34th St. and High School road. Police said the 1954 model car Cadillac rammed the bridge after swerving off 34th St. and MDuffee died at the scene of a broken neck. Co-Valedictorians At Hartford School Two senior students of Hartford have tied for the top honors, having had identical records for the four years of schooling. The valedictorians are Anita Reynolds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Reynolds of Linn Grove, and syß' ian > Anderson, son of Harold Anderson of Fort Wayne. 0 ...... Minor Auto Mishaps Reported By Police One Driver Fined On Traffic Count Two Wednesday afternoon automobile mishaps tn Decatur resulted in property damage Ipss of an estimated >750, but ho personal Injuries were involved. Gerald H. Gillen, 22, Rochester, N. Y., driver of one of the vehicles, was arrested on a charge of failing to yield the right-of-way and was fined $1 and costs in justice of peace court. . Automobiles driven by Richard Wertzberger, 41, Decatur, and Cleora Dorothy Jackemeyer, River road, near Decatur, collided at the corner of Jefferson and Second streets about 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon. | Damage to the two vehicles was ; estimated at 1350. An automobile driven by GiUan and another driven by Robert E. Butcher, 16, Decatur, collided at Monroe and Thirteenth streets, about 3:30 p.m. cawing an estimated damage of |4W. , An automobile driven by Sharon Beltz, Decatur, route two, struck ta parking meter on Second street at 5:45 o'clock Wednesday evening, causing damage in the amount of >ls. Decatur Drive-in Theater Reopens On'Friday Night The Decatur Drive-in Theater re-opens tomorrow evening for the ,1954 season. Especially popular for entertainment for the entire fam, ily, the outdoor playhouse will present for the most part first run pictures, with occasionally repeat showings of outstanding productions. Workmen have been busy the past two weeks getting everything in tip-top condition for the Friday ■ night opening. A new change in program policy has been announced for this year. On each program two features will be shown and there will be three changes each week—Sunday & Monday; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; and Friday and Saturday. The Drive-In theater offers the opportunity to families with small children to enjoy motion picture entertainment without the problem of baby-sitters. Parents who have . been house-bound all winter welcome the chance to get out and relax in the comfort and security of their own cars. "The Glenn Miller Story" has been filmed in Technicolor and presents James Stewart as the popular orchestra leader with June Allyson portraying his Wife. Frances Langford and Louis Armstrong make guest star appearances and many of the immortal Glenn Miller hit tunes are played and sung. Adams Central FFA Aids Tree Planting The senior agriculture boys of the Adams Central Future Farmers will participate in the Umberlost bird sanctuary tree planting near Geneva Friday. The FFA has also ordered signs, bearing the FFA insignia and chapter name, which will be placed in front of the school in the near ijuture. The crops judging team from Adams Central, consisting of Gene Hindenlang, Richard Kaebr, Alatf M filer and David Ringger, will compete in the district contest in Steuben county Saturday. Man Is Fined For Disorderly Conduct Arthur Neadstine, jailed last night by city police, pleaded guilty in mayor's court this morning to a charge of disorderly conduct. Neadstine was fined >5 and costs amounting to $18.75. The arrest was made about 11:45 o'clock Wednesday night at the corner of Monroe and Sixteenth streets. Adams Central High Teacher Is Honored Award Presented To Doyle Collier Doyle Collier, industrial arts instructor at Adams Central high school, has received one x>f the two awards given annually to outstanding teachers by the Indiana industrial education association. The award, a framed certificate of merit, was presented to Collier at a meeting of northeastern Indiana industrial arte teacher* Wednesday night in Fort Wayne. The certificate reads, “In recognition of results attained by his interest in his profession and his community and the contributions industrial arts make to the total school program; “HU ability to direct and guide pupil interest and attainment as demonstrated by the prominent place of his program in hU school; his ability to organize content and present it through interesting laboratory methode; “And because of his cooperation with pupils, teachers, administration and community as these apply te the field of industrial arts.” . , , •
