A social hour will follow the business ‘ session. i - ROSARY SOCIETY MEETS MONDAY » The Rosary society met Monday t at the K. of C. hall with 70 members present. During the business session, it . was decided to hold the annual . Mother’s day banquet 'Tuesday, May 25. The attendance prize, a lovely cake donated by Mrs. Clara . Rumschlag, was awarded to Mrs. John Miller. Mrs. Eugene Durkin and her committee were in charge of the social hour. Prizes were awarded to the following: Airs. Albert Converset, 500; Isabella Concino, rhum; Lillian Lose, canasta; and Vera Wolpert, pinochle. E. U. B. LOYAL DAUGHTERS HAVE CLASS MEETING Mrs. Clarence Smith was hostess to the Loyal Daughters class of the Bethany E. IT. B. church Tuesday evening. Mrs. James Staley, president, conducted the business meeting. Mrs. Violet Bonifas had the devotional*. At the close of the meeting Mrs. Wm. Dellinger gave the closing prayer. Contests were held with Mrs. Genevieve Owens, Mrs. Carl Hammond and Mrs. Dellinger giving the most correct answers. Twelve members and one guest. Mrs. Claude Foreman, were present. Lovely refreshments were served by the hoctess and assisting hostess, Mrs. Violet Bonifas. WALTER KOOS OBSERVES BIRTHDAY SUNDAY —Walter Koos was honored Sunday by his wife in observance of his birthday with a dinner and evening lunch attended by friends and relatives.. He Was presented with many lovely gifts. Those present for theoccasion were Mr. and Mrs. Dale Koos and sons, Donald. James, Allen, and Steve; Miss Eleanor Engle, all of Fort Wayne; Mr. and Mrs. Willard Gardner and sons, Dick and Ned of Buchanan, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Don Koos and children, Bobbie and Judy of Decatur; and Celeste Neptune of Los Angeles, Calif. Afternoon guests were Mr. and Mrs. James Baber; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mutschler and daughter Christine, all of Decatur. MRS. STRAYER CONDUCTS DEMONSTRATION CLUB MEET .Mrs. Rue Strayer, president, opened the recent meeting of the Friendship Village Home Demonstration club, held at the Kimsey school. After the club song, “The More
iWe Get Together,” was sung in unison, the creed was repeated. Mrs. Charles Biirkhdrt read the scripture and roll call was answered by “What I’d like to paint this summer.” The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved and the leaders gave a lesson on the making of pies. The Lincoln school, taught by Mrs. Carl Kuhn, presented a program in keeping with the Easter season after which the Kimsey school home economics class displayed some little white rabbits that they had made. It was announced that the ladies are to wear' housedresses to the May meeting which will be held at 1:30 C.D.T. The hostesses, Helen Garwood. Marjorie Knittie, Deloris Duff, Donna Rass, and Marg'aret Kuhn, served delicious refreshments to the 29 members, six children, and one guest present. MRS. AMOS YODER ENTERTAINS GARDEN CLUB Mrs. Amos Yoder was hostess Tuesday afternoon for the Decatur Garden club. The newly elected officers were in charge of the meeting: Mrs. William Kohls, president; Mrs. Yoder, vice-presi-dent; Mrs. Hersel Nash, secretary; and Mrs. G. Remy Bierly, treasurer. Two new members. Mrs. Wesley Lehman and Mrs. Calvin Yost, were welcomed into the club. The following reports were given. Mrs. Homer Lower told about the recent meeting of the Adams County Federation of Clubs, and Mrs. Henry Heller reported that there are 110 Entries in the bird drawing contest. The winning drawings will be entered in the district contest and the winners of the district contest will be entered in' the 1 " state competition. Mrs. N. A. Bixler told about the roadside council meeting held recently in Indianapolis. The theme of the'meeting was a plea for publicity for roadside problems and the northern toll road. She also reported that the highway department has discontinued the use of DDT for roadside spraying, due to the extensive damage it caused. In its place a chemical, that kills the majority of weeds, but will not harm trees and other woody growth, will be used. It was announced that a meeting will be held Thursday at Sears pavilion, Foster park. Fort Wayne. Mrs. John Downing will speak on “The Growing of Daffodils and Jonquils*' and will also conduct a one and a hall hour demonstration of flower arrangements. Tickets sell for $1 and include tea, which will follow the program. Mrs. Hubert Zerkel. Sr* conducted the lesson, using as her topic. "Fruit of God's Land/' During the social hour a sewing'•contest was enjoyed with Mrs. Heller winning the prize. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess/ assisted by Mrs. Zerkel. The next meeting will be a May breakfast atyianna-Nuttman park with the R3se Garden club. ADAMS CENTRAL P.T.A. HOLDS CLOSING MEETING The basketball boys, their parents, cheerleaders, coaches, and principals of the Adams Central school were honored Monday evening with a potluck supper by the Adams Central P.T.A. The decorations used were in keeping with the spring season. .. ■Later the P.T.A. held the last meeting of the year in the gymnasium. The Rev. G. R. Shaw opened the meeting, with -devotions. Don Arnold introduced Bill Milliner, coach of the Elkhart high school, who was the speaker for the ’evening. He directed his speech to the basketball boys and closed by saying “set your goal high wherever your place is on the floor. Play it with all you

May 18, is the date fol commencement, both will be held in the gymnasium. A state P.T.A. convention held in Fort Wayne April 27 to 29 and an informative conference will be held at the gym in Monroe May 6. The charter was draped for Amelia Kane, past national president. and Edith Crowley, past department president. Five-year pins were awarded to Marjorie Shook, Lucille Bodie, Agnes Baker, Tomassina Lee, Mildred McConnell, Thelma Railing, Ruth Roebuck, Ruth Edwards, Elaine Rice, Bertha Summers, Dorothy Christener, and Geraldine Gribbler. May 3 the auxiliary will hold a social meeting and a chicken supper will be held sometime in May; the date to be announced later. SHOWER GIVEN FOR MISS JOAN FUELLING The Misses Marlene Aumann and Dorothy Crosby recently entertained with a miscellaneous shower at the home of the latter in honor of Miss Joan Fuelling, whose marriage to Robert Thompson will be an event of April 25. Upon her arrival, Miss Fuelling was presented with a corsage of gardenias. Various games and contests were played during the evening, and the prizes won were then given to the bride-elect. Later in the evening a twocourse luncheon was served at a long table seating the 22 guests present. Table decorations were carried out in green and white. The guest of honor received many beautiful and useful gifts which were presented to her by her little sister, Cynthia, w T ho brought them into the room on a green and white decorated wagon to the music of the traditional wedding march. Those attending the affair besides the honored guest were the Mesdames Ida Fuelling, the bride’s mother; Paul Fuelling; Elmer Thompson, the groom's mother; Kenneth Niemeyer; Vernon Scheuinann; Donald Hoffman; Dave Williams; Robert Delong; Henry Getting; Charles Crosby; James Crosby; Fred Crosby; and the Misses * Dorothy Kukelhan; Glennvs Aumann; Laverne Thompson; Alice Fuelling; Clara Fuelling; Cynthia Fuelling; Louann Fuelling and the hostesses. Unable to attend were Mrs. Norman Ostermeyer, Miss Lorene Moellering, and Miss Barbara Kelly. MEETING HELD AT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Jack Lawson, soloist, sang “I Believe,” ”O Sweet .Mystery of Life," and "Song of the Open Road” at the joint meeting of the Decatur Woman’s club and the Federation of Clubs at. the Presbyterian church Monday evening. ■Mrs. Vern Collins, eighth district president, led the group in the recitation of the club collect. Mrs. Roy Kai ver then introduced the speaker for the - evening, Mrs. Mary Benedum of Muncie, the Americanism yhairmari of the Federation of Clubs. Her address concerned her recent trip to Europe. She stated that Americanism is the way of life and that the freedom of worship is the greatest right of the people. The officers of the group enters, tained the visiting officers at dinner at the Fairway restaurant preceding the meeting. HOME DEMONSTRATION LEADERS MEET HERE Yesterday, leaders from the Adams .county home demonstration association studied the fine points in making biscuits and muffins. Mis§ Ann Liggett, specialist in foods from Purdue University, presented the lesson to more than 40 leaders. A perfect attendance from ail nineteen clubs was recorded. Families of the almost SOO women in the home demonstration association will be enjoying delicious hot novelty breads as a result of this lesson’s being repeated in all local meetings. Home made mixes that were demonstrated will save much time and make it practical for homemakers to quicken the breakfast appetite with tantilizing aromas of delicious breads These are also inexpensive items tor the menu.
Mrs. Theron. Fenstermaker, county association president, opened the meeting at the Decatur home economics department. Mrs. Paul Rich led the group singing before the morning lesson. The afternoon session was begun with a short devotional reading by Mrs. Walter Hildebrand. Mrs. William Kruetzman, county association secretary, took the roll and read the minutes. Mrs. Fenstermaker and Anna K. Williams, home J demonstration discussed the May 1 achievement exhbilts, programs, and meals. At the-inoon hpur the group enjoyed a pobluck' hjn’cheon. Guy Brown, school superintendent and Hugh Andrews, principal, were guests at the meal along with their secretaries, Miss 1 verna Werling and Mrs. Vera Doty; and the extension office secretaries, Miss Gloria Koenerrian and Miss Sally McCullough. Xi Alpha Xi and Delta Lambda chapters of Beta Sigma Phi sorority will meet Tuesday evening at eight o’clock at the home of Mrs. Robert Lane. Mrs. Vernon Custer will assist the hostess. The Ruralistic Study club will meet with Mrs. Francis Geimer Thursday evening at eight o’clock. A meeting of lady golfers will be held Friday evening at seventhirty o’clock at the. home of Mrs. Everett Hutker. All ladies interested in playing in the ladies golf league are invited to attend. The meeting of So-Cha-Rea has been postponed one week. It will be held April 29 at the home of Mrs. Tillman Gehrig. Mrs. Lloyd Bowman will be hostess for the Root Township ’Home Demonstration club Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock. - ■ The Sunny Circle Home Demonstration club will meet Tuesday evening at eight o’clock at the Preble recreation hall.
