Illinois To Honor Decatur Student John Thompson Is Active At Illinois John Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thompson, is retiring from his second term as president of the inter-fraternity council at the University of Illinois. He has been an IF representative for six semesters. He served as a member of the council's public relations committee for a /year and as its chairman for anotlier year. He was also a member of the judicial committee for three semesters and of the executive/ committee tor four semesters,Jhei last two aa chairmag. He has 'been a member of the board of fraternity affairs for two years ana this past year acted as its vice-chairman. Thompscln was twice chosen as a University of Illinois representative to the National interfraternity conference, T and likewise twice represented, the council at the annual Big Jen interfraternity-Pan-Hellenic convention. Under His administration as president, he played a major part in conducting and tabulating two survey concerning student opinion on fraternities. In his own fraternity, Phi Gam-

ma Delta, Thompson has been active, serving aa delegate to the natiohal convention in 1952, ae editor of the chapter newspaper, as editor of the chapter rushing booklet and as homecoming chairman in 1952. Under hie editorship, the chapter newspaper was ranked fifth in 1953 among all the chapters of the fraternity. Hie other activities include membership in Ma-Wan-Da, the senior men’s activity honorary; election as pro-tern member of the student senate, and membership on the liberal arts council and campus chest fund allocations board. Last spring he was chosen as an "Illini of the Week” by the student newspaper, the Daily Illini. Thompson is a senior in the college of liberal arts and sciences, majoring in economics and minoring in mathematics and philosophy lie has maintained a high scholastic standing and will be awarded class honors on honors day, April 30.
