Anti-Trust Probe Os Auto Industry Probe Underway By Justice Department WASHINGTON UP — The justice department is conducting anti-trust investigations into various aspects of the automobile industry, it was learned today. Informed sources said at least two preliminary inquiries have been undertaken by experts in the department's anti-trust division in an effort to determine whether certain industry practices constitute violations of the nation’s antitrust laws.

At the same time, it was learned the federal trade commission is cheeking up on the relationship between General Motors and its dealers to make sure a 1941 FTC order against certain “exclusive dealing” arrangements is being enforced. The justice department had an official “no comment” on these reports and officials declined to be specific about the industry practices under investigation. But it was considered likely that deafer arrangements were involved in the anti-trust inquiry. These disclosures came in the ■wake of a demand earlier |his week by Rep. Shepard J. drumpacker Jr. (R-Ind.) that the FTC undertake a full-scale investigation of the automobile industry. He charged that a production
