It took the court-martial board only 45 minutes to reach a guilty verdict and 10 minutes to vote unanimously by secret ballot for the death sentence. Schick’s sentence automatically will be reviewed by the commanding general of the central command in Tokyo, then by the judge advocate general's office in Washington and finally by the U. S. court of military appeals, a threeman civilian board. The soldier’s lawyers said they would base their appeals on the ground that Schick was denied adequate psychiatric help. Construction Funds Approved By State One Mental Health Request Rejected INDIANAPOLIS UP — The Indiana budget committee rejected a <1,000,000 mental hedith request late Friday 'but approved other construction projects totaling 02,028,706. The funds will go to 24 state institutions and departments, the biggest chunk of it to Purdue University for a new <1,416,000 home economics building. Construction will start soon. Only construction request denied was that of Larue Carter mental hospital in Indianapolis for an,addition to a wing and equipment for a mental health research unit. The committee allowed the hospital <60,000 for engineering and architect fees, but withheld the remainder on grounds plans were not sufficiently developed at this time to warrant tying up the huge sum. Salary increases totaling <5,600 a year were approved for nine state officials, as requested by Governor Craig. But the committee refused to grant a suggested <l,ooo-a-year hike to the state attendance officer. Transfer of <500,000 from contingency funds to active accounts for use by state Institutions and departments also was approved. — BY—- — WANT TO RACE?
