—— —<-* Gives Finance . Report Today ' On Sectional A complete financial report for the 1984 sectional tourney, held last week at the Decatur high school gym, was released today by Hugh J. Andrew, Decatur principal and tourney manager. Receipts totaled $4,385, and expenditures were $708.90, leaving a first balance of $3,881.10. Receipts werte broken down as follows: upper bracket (Wednesday afternoon and night seasions), 2,000 tickets at 80 cents each, total of $1,200; lower bracket (Thursday session), 1,975 tickets it 60 cents, total of $1,185; Saturday sessions, 2,900 tickets at $1 each, total of $2,000. Total paid attendance for the five sessions was 9,976. Receipts wore $387.20 lower than last year, principally because idmission two upper bracket sessions (Tuesday and Wedneslay nights), was 80 cents as com■ared to 60 cents for the two Vedneaday sessions this year. Expenses this year were slighty lower than the $716.41 of the . 95$ tourney, ' . The expenditures were as folowe: meals, $270; referees, $196; <corers, $12.50; timers, $12.50; help, $25; printing, $79.50; inci- ! entail, $40.70; basketball, $19.85; anitor, $5: tickets, $41.40; telephone and telegraph, $1.45. From the first balance of $3,.81.10 is deducted $l5O for the ourney center high school; then 64.44 for transportation of teams; >42 for lodging; SIOO to the touriey center high school, leaving a fifth balance of $2,224.66. Os thia alance, one percent goes to the ndiana high school athletic association, $33.25. This leaves a sixth balance of $3,291.41 for division among the pine Adams county schools parieipating. Monmouth And North Side To Open Regional The Monmouth (Eagles, backed by several hundred Adams county lans, will battle the Fort Wayne North Side Redskins in the first game of the Fort Wayne regional tourney at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the new coliseum in Fort Wayne. The Eagles, who copped the Decatur sectional championship last Saturday for the second successive year, are rated as decided underdogs to the Redskins, ranked as one pt the state's top prep quintets all season long. The underdog rating is nothing new to the Eagles, however, and is of no worry to Coach Porky Holt and his ball club. Last year, the (Eagles were given little chance in the regional, but they handily whipped the Kendallville Comets in the afternoon, but could not stop the tough Fort Wayne Central Tigers in the final encounter. ~ in the second regional tilt, the Auburn Red Devils, making their sixth consecutive trip to the meet, will play the iLaiGrange Lions, surprise winner of the Kendallville '.SiBBML r Z'. .. Winners of the afternoon games will tangle in the championship encounter at 8:15 p.m. The regional winner will advance to the semi-final tourney Saturday, March 13, also at the Fort Wayne coliseum, against winners of the Muncie. Marion and Kokomo regionals. North Side has the top season record of the four regional contestants with 21 victories and three defeats.. Monmouth has the fine mark of 20 triumphs and only three losses, LaiGrange has a l<-8 mark and Auburn a 15-9 record. St.. Joe Takes County Junior High Tourney St. Joe of Decatur won the Adams county junior high school .basketball championship Thursday night, defeating the Berne junior high team, 52-38, in the final tourney game played at the Decatur Catholic school gym. , Berne got away to a fast start, leading at one time by 11-3, and still held a five-point margin at 11-6 at the end of the first quarter- . The Decatur lads, however, stepped up their offensive in the second period, scoring 21 points and holding ißerne to six as St. Joe held a 27-17 advantage at the half. The champions were out in front at the third quarter, 37-28, and stayed safely in front the rest of the game. Reed paced the St. Joe victory with 21 points, followed by Wilder with 15. Beaty led Berne with 13 markers. Following the final gun, the Decatur Daily Democrat trophy for the junior high champions was presented to the St- Joe team by Dick Heller, president of the Democrat. ' The St. Joe team will compete in the diocean tourney at the K. of 2. gym, Fifth and Madison streets, Dary, Sunday afternoon, meeting the South Bend deanery winner in the second game at 3 o’clock. Losers of the afternoon games will meet in the consolation tilt at 7 o'clock, followed by the championship game. Regional Final Is Scheduled For TV INDIANAPOLIS, UP . — More television stations will broadcast games of the Indiana high school basketball regional tourneys Saturday than ever before. Commissioner L. V. Phillips of I the state athletic association said I today six stations had received permission to air games at five of the 16 regional centers. WFBM-TV of Indianapolis will cover all three games at Indianapolis. WFIE of Evansville and WEHT of Henderson, Ky„ applied to cover Evansville. WKLO, Louisville, Ky„ was given permission to broadcast at Jeffersonville.
