GROUP MEETS AT ADAMS CENTRAL SCHOOL Thirty-five members and three guests gathered Tuesday evening at the Adams Central school for a meeting of the Kirkland Ladies Home Demonstration club. One new member was welcomed into the club. The meeting was opened by the president, Mrs. Dorphus Slickman, who read the creed, after which ’ Mrs. Ella Scherry sang the song of the month. Devotions were given by Mrs. Richard Gerber. Miss Lura Mankey then entertained the group with several accordion selections. The door prize was awarded to Mrs. Gerber. After the social hour, refreshments were served by the hostesses. Lucile Freels, Nettie Mankey, Delores Gerber, and Ida Frucht. MRS. JESSE A. RAY SURPRISED ON BIRTHDAY — Recently, friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mrs. j Jesse A. Ray and pleasantly surprised her on her birthday anniversary. Sandwiches, cake, ice cream and coffee were then served, after which the honored guest opened many lovely gifts. The remainder of the evening was enjoyed by group singing, games and the older folks reminiscing old times. Those present for the occasion were as follow's: Mr. and Mrs. F. D. MEET THURSDAY Circle 1 of the W. 8. C. S. of the Methodist church met at the home of Mrs. Homer Lower Thursday evening. Mrs. Harry Dailey presided over the business session. She announced that Lenten services would begin next Sunday evening and would be held each Sunday evening until Easter. The Rev. Samuel Emerick then talked on keeping another Lent. Sixteen members were present, and fifteen calls were reported Refreshments were served by Mrs. Lower, Mrs. Dailey, and Miss Ora Gilpin. MI3S MATILDA SELLEMEYER ENTERTAINS WEDNESDAY Miss Matilda Sellemeyer entertained members of the Bethany circle of the Zion Evangelical and (Reformed church Wednesday evening. ■ — - The program chairman, Mrs. Agnes Yager, gaver; gave the devotions, and followed with the discussion 'of the book. “Within These Borders,” by the Rev. John Scotford. Mrs. George Thomas, president, presided during the business session. Mrs. Wesley Lehman, spiritual life chairman, announced that the Lenten quiet hour would be observed Wednesday evening. March 3, the beginning of Lent. The World Day of Prayer, sponsored by the council of church women, will be observed Friday. March 5, at the Church of God. The meeting was closed by repeating the Mizpah benediction.

S. 224, Craigville, route 1, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Sunday with open house from two o’clock until five o’clock. A delicious luncheon was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Noah Roth, Mrs. Floyd Hunter, Mrs. Agnes Yager, and Miss Sellemeyer. MRS. FRANK GLECKLER HOSTESS WEDNESDAY The Union Township Home Demonstration club met for an all day meeting Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Frank Gleckler. Mrs. Henry Bauman led the group in prayer before a delicious potluck dinner was served. The history of the song, “There’s Music in the Air," was read by Mrs. Fred Marbach, after which the group sang the song. Mrs. Paul Morgan read from the Book of Psalms, followed by all repeating the Lord’s prayer. Roll call was answered by seventeen members ;- and minutes of the” preVidus Thedting “wew read and approved. The leader, Mrs. Hugh Nidlinger, gave a very interesting review of the lesson. “Meat and Herb Cooking.” Anna K. Williams brought some information regarding membership and the organization of a new club. Mrs. Erwin Fuelling was welcomed as a new member. -Mrs. Fred Shaffer and Mrs. Thurman Drew were co r hostesses. There were eight guests and- six children also present. -- • MRS. ESSEX ENTERTAINS HISTORICAL CLUB Mrs. Harry Essex was hostess to the Historical club Wednesday afternoon. The president, Mrs. Delton Passwater, opened the meeting with the club collect. After the business session. Mrs. Homer Bittner gave a most interesting paper on“ From Sagebrush to Roses on the Columbia.” Lovely refreshments were served by the hostess. CIRCLE 4 MEETS WITH MRS. SMITH Circle 4 of W.S.C.S met with Mrs. Leland Smith Thursday evening. Scripture lesson was given by (Mrs. George Helm, and Mrs. Amos Yoder presented the lesson for the day. At the Adams county memorial hospital: Mr. and Mrs. Luther Engle, Monroe, became the parents of a baby son Thursday at 5:20 p.m. He weighed 9 pounds and 4 ounces. •Burns Are Fatal To East Chicago Man EAST CHICAGO, Ind., UP — Julio C. Serrano, 25, East Chicago, died in St. Catherine’s hospital Thursday pt injuries suffered the day before in a fire in his room. Fireman said Serrano apparently set his bed afire with a cigaret. Window Peeping Is Charged To Terrell Von Terrell, 30, Decatur, who has had several encounters with the~law in Decatur and Bluffton, was arrested in t/>e north part of Decatur Thursday night about 10:30; after residents had notified the police that someone was seen near several houses. A charge of window' peeping was filed against Terrell and a hearing will be held in the next day or two in mayor’s court.
