LUTHERAN GROUP CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY Th* Decatur circuit chapter of the Valparaiso University guild celebrated its fifth anniversary Sunday afternoon at a tea in the social room of St. John's Lutheran church. Flatrock. Mrs. W, C. Vetter opened the meeting with a psalm and prayer. > ————— A short business meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. Willard Faubush, at which time plans for the Valparaiso University choir concert at the Decatur high school, Monday, January 25, were discussed. Mrs. Arthur Koeneman presented the slate of candidates for the coming year. Mrs. E. L. Nicol, program chairman. presented Mrs. Louis Jacobs, first president of the guild, who gave the history has given Va-1 paraiso university >350.000. Nationally, the guild has 79 chapters and over 6,000 members. She then reviewed the five year history of the local chapter, during which time it has helped Valparaiso unL varsity in the amount of >3,300. The Decatur circuit chapter began with 76 charter members and now has a membership of 120. Mrs. Herman Krueckeberg, Immediate past president, recalled to — mind the happenings on the day of organization in 1949. Tea was served from a beautifully appointed table centered with a large brown and gold birthday cake. flanked by matching candles, carrying out Valpo'e colors. Large trays of delicious "miniature pastries were served. Hostesses for the tea were? the Mesdames W. H. Hoffman, W. J. Ehlen, Elmer Doctor. Albert Saalfrank, Alton Bittner, and Henry L. Meyer. CLUB MEETS AT ZION PARISH HALL The Zion Lutheran Married Couples club met last night in the Zion parish hall. The film “I was at Houston” gave an interesting resume of the recent national convention of the Lutheran churchMissouri synod. It showed what is being done in all phases of church work both nationally and internationally. Harry Sheets introduced the program and conducted a short business meeting. He announced the committee for February consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Zwlck, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Schroeder, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mailand. The members enjoyed games and later a delicious lunch was served by the following committee in charge: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bieberich, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Fleming, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nyffier. UNION CHAPEL GROUP MEETS The Ladies aid of Union Chapel church met recently at the church tor a regular business meeting and sewing. A delicious carry-in dinner was served at noon. In the afternoon the president.

Mrs. Harvey Koos, was in charge of a short business session. After group singing. Mrs. Florence Bauinan led in. prayer with Mrs. C, O. Brown reading the scripture. It was decided that a work day meeting will be held in two weeks. The meeting was dismissed with prayer by Mr?. Martin Sprunger. The following were present: Mrs. John Walters, Mrs. Omer Merriman. Mrs. Kops, Mrs. Don Smith and daughter lane, t Mrs. Earl Chase, Mrs. C. Q.fHrown, Mra. Lawrence Norris; Mrs. Sprunger, Mrs. Glen Roughla, Mrs. Ami Miller. Mrs. Bauman, Mrs. Thurman Drew, Mrs. Robert Workinger, Mrs. Charles Burrell, and Mrs. Addie Rabbitt. GECODE CLUB MAKES PLANS The Gecode club held its annual conference Sunday at the Moose home. f The business meeting started at eleven o'clock with installation of officers being conducted by John Welch, plant manager. The following officers were installed: Dorothy Schnepf. president; Norma Bower, vice-president; Mary Milled, treasurer; Virginia Raudenbush, secretary; Mary Mallonee, Berniece Glennis. and Velma Goeltz, directors. It was decided that the parties for the coming year be held the first Wednesday of the month at the Moose home. Dinner was served at twelve o’clock from beautifully decorated tables. At this time group singing was enjoyed. Following dinner the business meeting w>.„ and names for the parties of the coming year are: February *l, “The Mister,” March 4, “The Great West”; . April 1, “Spring Fever”; May 9, "Mother’s Day”; June 3, “Our Birthdays"; July 1, “Picnic”; September 2, “School Days”; October 7, “Harvest Season”; November 4, "Smorgasbord”; and December 2, ’’Peace on Earth."' Plans for several trips were discussed. and more details will be given at a future party. » Welch then gave an interesting talk, entitled “Co-operation.” A candle light service was conducted at the close of the meeting with Emma Goldner reading the poem "Secrets." MRS. HERMAN DIERKES CONDUCTS MEETING Adams unit 43 of American Legion auxiliary held their regular business meeting Friday evening at the Legion home. Mrs. Herman Dierkes presided. A donation of ten dollars was made to the March of Dimes, and ten dollars was also given to the Adams county T. B. association. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Rash will be co-host and hostess. Thomas, 25, indicted for second degree murder in the traffic death of 'Robert Grubb, last September 13 seven miles west of Van Wert, 0., on highway 224, was found not guilty. Judge McNeill and a jury of, four women and eight men heard the case. The jury was out only a half hour.
