CLUB MEETS AT KIMSEY SCHOOL Friendship Village Home Dem* onstration club met recently at the Kiinsey school with a potluck dinner served at noon to 48 members, three guests, and eleven children. Christinas.carols were sung, and Mrs. Rue Strayer read a short story and the scripture. Roll call was answered with scripture verses. A short program was given by Mrs. Carl Schug. who read a poem of her own. Mrs. Lois Merriinah presented “Silent'Night.” and Mrs. Claude Markel played a recording of the 4-H Christmas party. During the business session, bills, new cheer sister names, and hostesses for the ne-w year were discussed. The new\ president then named her committees for the coming year. Hostesses for the event were Mrs. Roxie Schaadt, Mrs. <*Helen Geyer, Mrs. Fritz Meyer, Mrs. Olive Hoblet, and Mrs. Walter Kesler. , ADAMS CENTRAL P. T. A. CONVENES The Adams Central P. T.’A. met Monday evening r-in the gym of Kirkland township. Robert Ray led the group ini singing Christinas carols after which the R.ev. John Ditwiller conducted the devotions. President Martin Steiper was in charge of the business. » The Rev. Mishler, program chairman, introduced Marcia Zimmerman who announced the program. The Debolt school, taught by Alice Michels, presented the rhythm band. Dolores Mishler, Sidney Schwartz, Karen Brandt, and Ros etta Gerber from the Monroe school played accordion, solos. The sixth grade, taught by Leo gave a Christmas play and\ the fifth grade, taught by Kenneth Watkins, gave the playlet, "Precious Promises.” A boys’ sextett, Leroy Cable, Claude Striker, Dwight Moser, Junior Lantz, Steve Hike, and Danny Michels, sang '“We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Santa Claus then arrived and §ave the children candy canes. TheF hospitality committee served delicious refreshments to approximately three hundred adults and children. The nekt meeting.-will be January IS and it will be talent night. ... \ Mrs. Eva Brewster entertained, at dinner Monday Mr. and Mrs. James Nussbaum and sons Jan and Jed of Monroe, Mr. and Mrs? Henry Nussbaum of Berne, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Garwood of Decatur. The occasion was \ -the 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. James Nussbaum and the 31st anniversary of Mr. \and Mrs. Henry Nussbaum. Both anniversaries w:ere Monday, December 21. Miss Ella Mutschler and Mrs. Anan Lowrie of Los Angeles, Calif., arrived in Decatur to spend the holidays at Hilltop Home with Mr. and Mrs. B. F* Shroyer. Miss Mutschler is a sister to Mrs. Shroyer and Edgar Mutschler. Mr. and Mrs. James E. Kessler of Monroe celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard Steiner are spending Christmas at Straitford, Ont. in Canada. Five Children Burn To Death In Home MARINETTE. Wis. UP — Five children were burned to death here today, despite their father's frenzied efforts to save them from a second story bedroom. The father, Robert de Gayner, 29. himself was critically burned when he climbed to a porch roof and tried to break into the bedroom where the children were sleeping. His wife was hospitalized for shock. IUE Will Ask For Increase In Wages PHILADELPHIA, UP—The international union of electrical radio and machine workers (CIO) will strive for “substantial” wage boosts and a guaranteed annual wage in spflng negotiations with Westinghouse Electric Corp, and General Electric Co., president James B. Carey said Tuesday. Carey said the action in behalf of his union’s 365,000 members will inaugurate the ClO’s drive throughout heavy industry. He said the United Steelworkers and United Auto Workers would follow suit. Number Os Jobless Hoosiers Still High INDIANAPOLIS, UP — The number of jobless Hoosiers remained high last week despite a slight drop in newly unemployed workers, the Indiana employment security division reported today. Director William C. Sfalnaker said 43,931 persons applied for un employment insurance last week, and 35,731 of them had been out of work a Tyeek or? more. The number of newly unemployed persons dropped from 8,400 to 8,200. A year ago at this time only 25,887 persons filed claims, and 12,367 of them reported unemployment a week or more.

Two Indiana Women Killed In Accidents Die In Separate Traffic Accidents z BT, LOUIS, UP — Two Indiana women’ were killed Tuesday in separate traffic accidents on U. S, 66 near here. . V j Mrs. Ethyl McGriff, 67, Rochester, Ind., was killed and her 69-year-old husband, Albert, was injured serjoMly Tuesday night when they struck by an auto driven by flay Eckelkamp, Washington, Mo. \ Missouri state highway patrolmen said the McGriffs were hit while they were crossing the highway 2\ 2 miles west of its intersection with U. S. 66-67 in St. Louis County. Earlier, Miss Mary Ann Heck, 21, Connersville, Ini, was killed in a collision between two autos and a truck neaf Gray Summit, Mo. Five other persons were injured, includingXMr. and Mrs. Orville Broughton, North Salem, Ind., and their 15-year-old son, Donald. The Broughtons were passengers in the car driven by Miss Heck. <^ r The highway *patrol reported Miss Heck’s car-'went out of control on an icy curve, sideswiped a truck collided with another car. Rev. Schmidt Host To Pastors Today The Rev. Edgar P. Schmidt served as host and officiant at an advent communion celebration conducted for the Lutheran pastors of the Decatur and Van Wert circuits. The service was conducted in the local Zion Lutheran church, west Monroe street, early this afternoon. Fifteen pastors attended. The Rev. Otto C; Busse of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Preble township, and chairman of the Decatur circuit, served the sacrament to the host pastor, and assisted him in the worship period. This advent communion service, inaugurated five years ago by Rev. Schmidt, has been conducted each year the third week in December. Ohio pastors present were; W. H. Moeller of Van Wert. F. H.
