I Comments J&l on s.a.- .area EeasonjßgjM Creamed comments on the Sunday school lesson, Thy Kingdom Come, Matthew 6:9-10; 28:16-20; John 17:18-21; Acts 1:6-8 for Sunday, December 27. — This is the climax lesson In the general theme of making a better world.- The ultimate goal is the absolute reign of Christ in all the earth; Christian teachings point to this goal and the part God’s children ought to take here and now with the ultimate goal in View. « V. 9. "After this manner pray ye; Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed by thy name." God in person needs to be acknowledged; he being so incomprehensible, so all wise, so powerful Will be revered and adored. Unless thia is done his kingdom can not come. V.lO. "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done.7 Different interpretations may be given of the kingdom; the general explanation is that it is the reign of God in the hearts of men; it comes with the acceptance and performing of the will of God. V. 16. “Then the disciples went away, into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.” To clarify the meaning of the kingdom, Jesus after his resurrection arranged for a conference at his trysting place, a place of former experiences. Here deeper imprbssions of truths would be made. V. 17. “And when they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted.” By worship a of mind was produced that would open the way for Christ’s teaching. The fact that some doubted indicated that a great truth was presented not easily understood. They were honest doubters, a hopeful class. V.lB. “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying. All power is given unto me in heaven and in eartji.” After his Resurrection, hfe work of redemption having been done, Jesus declared the power he had with God in the beginning so he could now speak with more authority. V 5.19,20. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatChurch of God 628 Cleveland Street Decatur, Indiana The Church of the “Christian Brotherhood Hour.” heard every Sunday morning over WKJG, 1380 on your dial, at 8:30. soever I have commended yon; and io, I am with you Always, even unto the end of the world.” Here Is a definite command and has in it a test of discipleship. Here is the greatest task assigned to men; but, with the task, God has provided' power. In the discharge of duty comes the presence of the Lord, and he being Lord of all brings into reality his kingdom, Regardless of this command it is claimed that 7 out of every 1(7 persons in the world are not Christian, and too many who are called Christiane are so only in name, judging by their failure to be good Christian witnesses.? V.lB. "As thou hast sent me into the world, eveh so have r sent them into the world.” Here is a prayer of the Lord. Note that as God’s children, living at their best for him, the Lord is praying for them. V. 19. "And for their takes I sanctify myself, that they also may be sanctified through the truth.” Let no one make a jest of sanctification, for it is in the Lord’s prayer; it calls for a sincere consecration—an all-out, full surrender to God; when this is done, God does the sanctifying. » :i ' V. 20. "Neither pray I for these alone; but for them also which shall believe on me through the word.” Here you and I are included. , V V. 21. “That they all mriy be one; as thou Father art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that thou hast y sent me.” God plans that there: shall be a spiritual union of hie children with him and with each other; then there will be two results —the kingdom of God will then come, and sinners will be converted. V 5.6,7. “When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying. Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom of Israel? And he said unto them, it is not for‘you to know the times and the seasons which the Father hath put in his power.” His kingdom is spiritual and not secular; it will be perfect only At Christ’s second coming. V. 6. “But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” The spiritual kingdom is wrought by the Holy Ghost and when this work is done, men will be good Christian 'witnesses everywhere. When Christian witnessing becomes Universal, then* will the kingdom of the world become the kingdom of our lord. See verse 15. Tuesday night at 7:30. Wednesday night will close the twenty four hour prayer yigil by the church, with a special prayer service at 7:30 p.m. For the first three days of the New Year, January 1,2, and 3, the Church of God has the honor of a guest speaker, a well known evangelist Mrs. Mabel 'Rife Whipple, of Columbus, Ohio. The greatest and the most important implied invitation was that extended to the shepherds near Bethlehem to whom the an-’ gels announced the birth of Christ. This invitation is also seen in the direction given the wise men from the east to go to Bethlehem where the child Jesus was born. The etars in heaven joined in this great invitation. heaven, no man can ignore the meaning. The Bible records the facts of his Birth, and the church is ever proclaiming the message of the gospel, the good news to all men.
