Poor Germination In Soybean Seeds An alarming number of soybean samples submitted to the Purdue University state seed testing laboratory show poor germination — some as low as 40 percent — reports A. S. Carter, assistant state seed commissioner. And, Purdue garonomists state that only about one-half of seed from fields inspected for certification purposes meets the minimum standard of 80% germination for all varieties accepted. Carter explains that many soybeans were harvested at less than 10% moisture, and that many seeds were split or damaged as they passed through the combine cylinder. He adds that the damage is not always visible—in some instances, the seeds are not split but the germ has been torn loose internally. Since many farmers have saved soybeans for seeding next spring, Carter suggests getting seed tested now so that some indication of performance can be predicted. Purdue agronomists do not recommend using seed which germinates less than 70%. North, Korean captors shot him. But the career soldier from Hickman Falls, Mont., had to fight, to contrbl himself when he. told of the courage with which I'4 other Americans in his group met death on that day in September. 1950. “There was not a man who begged for mercy and not a man who cracked,” he said. TORTURED, (Continued From r»gf Que) attack continued'. He hailed a truck driver who untied his hands and continued into town to report the incident. Allen got his pistol from the “truck and fired at Folk as the suspect emerged from the trailer, ht said. \ The slaying occurred about i 2 miles east of here near Goodwater, Ariz.
