An entertaining program was presented. It included piano selections by Michael Kohne and a Cpristmas message by Susan Custejr. Barbara Kalver gave the history of three Christmas carols, aft er which James Rowley, accompanied by Jane Rentz, sang the carols. The carol “Christmas Bells” was portrayed by Janie Anspaugh; "O Little Town of Bethlehem” by ( Annette Thomas, Becky Maddox and Tommy Kohne;. and "We Three Kings” by Pat Durkin, Johnny Custer, and Tommy Maddox. Miss Mary Michaels enjoyed Thanksgiving vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Michaels of near Monroe. Miss Mary Lou Butler of Denver. Colo., was also a guest in the Michael’s home. Both girls are students of Mac Murray college, Jacksonville, Ul. Tuesday afternoon Miss Connie Hakes, a student of Wren high school, was severely burned by acid when an exptetijuent prepared by another student in chemistry class exploded. .Her clothing was destroyed and she suffered burns on her back and arms. After receiving a doctor’d care, Miss Hakes was returned to her home. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fackler of 'Mansfield. O.; Ivory Fackler of Ashland. O.: and Mrs. Emma Slaybauch of Shelby, 0., were the weekend guests of Mrs. Charles Meyers. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Koos and William Bunner attended the funeral services of their sister-in-law Mrs. E. A. Jimmie Heller Has Arm Broken Tuesday* Jimmie Heller, aged three, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Heller sufr sered a double fracture of his right arm Tuesday afternoon in a fall at the Heller residence on Cleveland street. * The youth was taken to the Adams county memoriaF hospital where the injured arm was set. Three Petitions Are Filed With Council 4 Three routine petitions and a state tax board notice were included along with the more important business taken up at the city council meeting Tuesday night. 33,000 Steelworkers Go Out On Strike Can Manufacturing Plants Are Closed PITTSBURGH UP — A strike of 33,000 CIO United Steelworkers closed 68 plants and warehouses ot the nation’s two largest can manufacturers today. The union sent pickets to the plants throughout the Unied Sate» and Canada at midnight after breaking off wage negotiations with Continental Can and Ameri can Can companies. (Management spokesmen said no efforts were made to operate iu stallations manned by LSW members. However, more than 50 plants of the two firms whose employes are organized by other unions continued operations. The union broke off the negotiations, which opened last Oct. 19 shortly before its contracts with the companies expired Tuesday tight. Both the companies and the union had made counter offers during the bargaining sessions, but following the bieak off of negotiations, a union spokesman said tic USWs original demands were being reinstated. Young Farmers Class Will Meet Thursday The young farmers class will hold its first meeting in room 102 of the Decatur high school Thursday evening at 7:30 o’clock. William H.
