Only One Team Places Two On State All-Star UP — It was front and center > today for the United Press Indiana high school football “All State’ team, a starstudded outfit with al Isectiohs well represented. Sportswriters and sportscasters picked one of the most balanced “dream teams” to make up s he No. 1 crew, and there was little to choosd between it and the next two. (Balloting was so j wide-spread only undefeated and untied Evansville Reitz managed to place two players on the first team, which, as usual, is outfitted with a fiveman backfield due to the wealth bf ballcarriers. lEvansville Bosse, Terre Hau‘e Garfield, Chicago Washington, South Bend Washington, Soutn Bend Central, Mishawaka, Elkhart, Indianapolis Tech, ''Muncie Central and Richmond also are represented oh the first team. Rlchmopd’s Tommy Fletcher, the state’s leading scorer two years running, is the only repeater from last year. Fletcher, who put together 177 points last year, qdcted 141 this season. South Bend Central quarterback Jim Dulcet, who runs the first team, is not only 'a fine signal caller but also a first-class passer Besides Fletcher, he has Clasjv halfbacks Eric Barnes of Elkhart, wh oled the Eat NIHSC in scoring with 72 points, Adell Turner qf Indianapolis Tech, and Reitz fullback Jim Byers. • \ Bosse's Jim Fox and John Casterlow of Muncie Central are the ends. Dan Vandever of Reitz and Gene Wilson man the tackles and Phil Toth of East Chicago Washington and Bob Case of Mishawaka the guards. Mike Mondovics of South Bend Central, one of two juniors on thq squad, snaps the ball from center. Casterlow is the other third-year man. It’s a shifty and speedy outfit and should-rank with the best “mythical” all-stars elver put together. It has the necessa.-y “beef," too, with Vandever, Wilson and Mondovics scaling nearly 200 pounds. Fox at 170 is the lightest. „ Competition for the other spots was so keen two of last year’s first-stringers had to be satisfied with second - team honors. Alex Karras of Gary Emerson, a tackle last year, is an end now.. The other is South Bend Washington fullback Joe Brazier. Bernard ißucky Haag of La Porte, second - team fullback in 1952, is a mainstay of the third eleven. jj ; If you have something to sell or rooms for -ent, try a Democrat Want Add. It brings results.

By Oscar Fraley. o : o NEW YORK, UP — fStop holding your breath, men, the Time finally has arrived today to announce Fearless Fraley’s “I ain't seen noon of them” 1953 All-America football team. - - ’ i Even in this bright-new age of television, it still is impossible to see every team in the nation on the few football Saturday available. \ I doubt father : seriously whether there is a man alive who has seen every college in action in his whole lifetime, be he Amos Alonzo Stagg or Pop Warner.* Somewh’ere they.’re gonna blow one and who is to say that even Sunflower or Turkey Trot Tech evefry once in a while doesn't come up with a guard or a tackle fit to play in anybody’s league? As example, there Are fellows playing in the tough pro league from such schools as McMurray. Youngstown. John Carroll, La Crosse State, Abilene Christian and Gambling. What do - you suppose the odds are against, say a guard from Grambling making the All-America team, in his own home town newspaper? But you aren't gonna catch Old Fearless out .of line. No sir! Like my brother selectors, I done picked a team an here it is: End — Don Dohoney, Michigan State. Tackle — Jim Smith, Baylor. , Guard — Crawford "Mims, Mississippi. Center — Larry Morris, Georgia Tech. Guard — J. D. Roberts, Okla> boma. Tackle • — Art Hunter, Notre Dame. I End — Carlton Massey, Texas. Back — Paul.Giel, Minnesota. Back — J. C. West Virginia; backs, Neil Worden, Notre Dame; Jackie Parker, Mississippi State; Alan Ameche, Wisconsin, and Zeke Bratkowski. Georgia. You might call this a “Hearsay'. All-America,” although to say that every such team selected fits the same category of heresay. Understand. I’m not putting the knock on thia annual game. I just think the -wrong guys are getting the benefits. After all, the ’’A 11-Am ericas” only have to spend a couple of months getting knocked down or knocking somebody else down, which I have always found to be the most delightful part of these alternatives. The lads who deserve the credit are the'college publicity men. Thus, the big man in football this season is Charlie Callahan, the Notre Dame tub thumper.
