Commodores Defeated By Huntington Tuesday Night By 60-39 Score

(Leading all the way, the Huritington Catholic Ramblers whipped the Decatur Commodores, 80-39, at the Decatur gym Tuesday night to hand the Decatur Catholic five t its first defeat of the season after an opening-game triumph last | week. £ The Ramblers led at all periods *of the rough, ragged contest, 15-9, <26-19, and 38-31. 1 Huntington raced into an early • j 6-0 lead but a field goal by Ed J Wilder and a pair of two-pointers ♦ by Johnny York knotted the count at 6-6. Jack Solloway then hit' from the field to give the Ramblers a lead they never lost. The visitors twice built up 11polnt leads in tltfj third period, which the Commodores cut to seven at the end of the quarter, 38-31. Chuck V.oglewede’s foul tofcs to open the final stanza reduced the margin to six points but the -Ramblers then began to pull away rapidly for their final margin of 21 points. John Eckert scored 16 points arid Fred Boyle 14 to pace Huntington to its victory. For the Commodores, York was the only player tn double figures with 11 markers. Each team lost one player on personals as 21 fouls were assessI , ed each team. Huntington converted 18 of 34 foul shots, the Commodores 15 of 37. The Commodores swing back into action Friday night, meeting the Monmouth Eagles at Monmouth. Next home game for the I Commodores will be Dec. 1 against the Chester Center Indians. Berne Loses To Dunkirk last Night, 69-58 Dunkirk's superior height and weight paid off in the second halt as the Speedcats downed the Berne Bears, 69-58, at the Dunkirk gym Tuesday night. The much smaller Bears held leads of 17-11 at the first quarter and 25-24 at the half, but Dunkirk pulled into a 43-37 margin at the third period. The winners were led by Buckner with 23 points and Gray with 18, while Berne had four players in double figures, led by Ehrman with 17, followed by Sprunger with 15, Kirchhoffer with 12 and L. One Boy Killed In Hunting AetMenl Three Hunters Are Wounded At Bluffton INDIANAPOLIS UP —An 11-year-old b6y died today of a bullet wound suffered in a hdntfng accident. An undetermined number of mishaps got Indiana’s open season on small game off to a bloody start. Three hubters were shot near Bluffton and one may have been saved by a game warden's tourniquet. " ■ 1 Charles Achors, ' Linton, was shot accidentally in a wooded area near Linton when Gene Spinks, 10, Linton, mlssted a rifle shot aimed at a starling. The bulled pierced the boy’s brain. Charles underwent an operation Tuesday night at Riley hospital here but died several hours later. He was the Son of James Achors. Doans, and Mrs. Eliza Chaney, Linton. Linton police chief Bill Coleman said the mishap occurred when Spinks and two others with whom he was hunting split up. Police planned to question the three today. > v Three hunters Were shot in separate accidents near Bluffton. Dale Edington, 36, Blufftoh, and William Kipfer Jr., 48, near Bluffton. were hospitalized facing possible loss of limbs. Wounded less seriously in a third accident was George H. Selby, Fort Wayne. All three were shot by guns frhfch accidentally discharged in the hands of htmtir.|; companions. Game warden Bob Harris mayhave saved Edington's life. He had checkfed licenses of Edington and Reynold Gptty, Fort Wayne, and turned to leave When the shot fceht off, shattering Edington's elbow. Harris applied a tourniquet. Kipfer was hit below the knee' with a shot from a gun \ held byElmer Isch, Rlnftton, who\ was hunting with him. Selby'js wound was caused by richocheting buckkhot from a fcun fired by his son, William. Four Children Die In Apartment Fire ( Housing Project At Louisville is Scene LOUISVILLE. Ky. UP —Four children ranging in age from 1 to 6 ypars we're burned or suffocated to death early today in an apartment fire believed by firemen to have started from a cigarette. The blaze started in the apartment of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Raymond in the Bowman air field housing project. i Dead were identified by police as Eddie Raymond. 1; Lennie mond; 2. Bobby Raymond, 3; and Irene Raymond, 6. \ At least three other families vacated the burning building, according to Capt. Merle Brown, of the fire prevention' bureau. No one else was he said. Brown said Raymond discovered the fire and awakened his wife and that the two ran out of the building. They shut ttye door which slammed and locked {behind then;. The parents realized the children were in the apartment and broke the door down, but the flames had spread too rapidly for them to re-enter the two-story frame building. Brown said.

Pleasant Mills Defeats Wren Tuesday, 55-51 The Pleasant Mills Spartans, after dropping their first two starts, chalked up their first victory of the season Tuesday night, defeating Wren, O.f 55-51, at the Pleasant Mills gyti. > The two quintets were tied at the first quarter, 11-11, and Wren led at the half, 29-26..
