Dionne Qwntapld Begins Life As Nun Marie Dbnne In Canadian Convent QUEBE-C CITY, QUe. UP — Marie Dionne, tiniest of Canada’s quintuplets, begad life as a cloistered nun today with prayers before dawn for the thousands who prayed for her Use when she was horn 19 years ago. A black wooden grille at the gate of a convent of one of the most sheltered orders of the Roman Catholic church closed between her and other teen-agers late Tuesday. “Froid now on,” she said quietly, “there shall, be a reciprocity of prayers betwee# my benefactors and myself.” >. She said her "benefactors” were the thousands who prayed day and night for her survival from her birth through the time 10 days later when she weighed only one pound, 10 ounces and was fed tiny doses of rum In an eye-dropper to keep her weak heart beating. Unless\she experiences a sudden change of heart, which her devoutly religious family b eTie red highly unlikely, Marie'will spend the next six months as a “postulant." She then will take the rows that will make her a novice nun and three years later the final vows of the Sisters of the Very Holy Sacrament. Teais rolled down Marie’s cheeks as she said goodbye to her mother, three of the quints, and an older sister. v The sisters of thf order formed a double row in a small reception hall to welcome the 19-year-old postulant. Once inside, the door was closed to botli Marie’s family and the press. : Behind the cloister, Marie removed her blue-gtey checked coat and her blue hat to don the black robe and white veil of the order. She then returned to the grille separating her from her family and kissed each of them goodbye. Tears rolled down, her cheeks but she tried hard to smile as the nuns lowered the grille again and she went to take part in the order’s 5 o’clock ceremony before the blessed sacrament. Outside, her mother, Mrs. Oliva Dionne, three of the quints—Cecile, Yvonne and Annette — and Mjs. Maurice Girouard, an older irtster turned away from the convent. Emilie was the "only one of the quints missing at the farewell. Denied Marriage, Pair Take Lives Young Girl, Boy Found Dead In Cat PORT JERVIS, N. Y., UP — Authorities said today a 17-year-old high school girl apparently was pregnant when she and her b|>y friend ended their lives because their parents wouldn’t let them get married. The girl, Joyce Fulmer, slipped a wedding band on her finger before her sweetheart, Charles E. Joues, also 17, pulled the trigger of a .22 caliber rifle pressed against her head. Then Jones fired another bullet into his own head. ’The bodies of the young couple were found Tuesday in a car parked .near the Port Jervis Country Club. A note signed by both hinted at the lovesick anguish behind their tragedy. State police did not reveal the full text of the note but said it “inferred” Miss Fulmer was j pregnant. * ! The note indicated the parents of both opposed their marriage because thef were “too young.” “jlow do you feel now?” the note asked. i r Coroner Kenneth March ruled the deaths a murder and suicide. Although two guns were found in the car, he said, the position of the bodies showed it was impossible for the girl to hive shot herself. Neither family could be reached for comment. Officers said the gilt’s mother, Mrb. Irene Fulmer of Port Jervis, was “pretty broken up." She is separated from her husband. Jones’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Jones of nearby Montague township. N. J., were “shocked” and in seclusion, police said. ■■A , . I WjOSP.ITAL Admitted Harold Glrardot, Monroeville. Mrs. Alvin Gutowitx, city. Dismissed Master Dale Straub, city; Mrs. John Overholster. Test Case Filed On Sheriff Eligibility Test Case Is Backed By Sheriffs' Group MADISON, Ind. (UP)—Jefferson county’s sheriff Tuesday filed a "test case” suit to determine the eligibility for re-election of 77 Hoosier sheriffs puzzled by a state constitutional amendment. The suit, filed in circuit court hdre by Walter S&uley with the backing of the Indiana sheriffs association.’ asks a declaratory judgment as to whether serving of two 2-year terms under the old law is equivalent to one 4-year term under the amendment, approved by the voters in 1952. The amendment limits sheriffs to two 4-year consecutive terms l« a I'2-year period and changes the tenure of office from two to four years. Sauley and 76 other sheriffs , served a pair of 2-year terms and were elected to a 4-year term, but because of the ambiguity of the law desire clarification about the interpretation of the limitation. Whatever the Jefferson court riritng, the suit filed against the Jefferson county election board win be appealed to the state supreme court.
