I Comments J&l On s,s.< anM Creamed comments on the Bunday school lesson, God’s Plan for the Home, Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Ephesians 5:25-33, for Sunday, November 1. A Christian home Is God’s ideal; Jesus for a time had * home on earth; heaven is spoken of as a home. God’s pltai for the human race is implemented primarily by the home. It is a sacred institution and takes priority over the churoh. V. 4. “Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is one God.” A holy reverence for God is fundamental. Religious loyalty will not allow more than one God. An attempted divided love is no love at all; this applies to home as well as to God. V. 5. “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with' all thy soul, and with all thy might.” We must highly esteem God; and to him we must be entirely devoted. Heart, soul and might are expressions which indicate that we should love and serve God with all our powers. V. 6. “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thy heart.” To love God supremely Is a command. The statutes of the Lord were to be fixed in the minds of the parents; also they should have a disposition to keep them. V.7. “And thou shaft teach them diligently 1 unto thy children; and shall talk of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou w Walkest by the way, and when 'thou liest down; and when thou riseth up.” The ancient Hebrew was commanded to teach his children from the days of their infancy. Children will feel that the things talked about frequently in the home are important. V.B. “And thou ghalt bind them tor a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.” Figuratively, this versa means that the words of the law are to be constantly kept in' mind just as though they were continualy before the eyes. By example and influence the parents should say, "This is the way. walk ye in it.” V. 25. “Husbands love your wives

even as Christ loved the church, and gave himself tor it;” Love is the husband’s duty to his wife —a love like Christ’s —a love capable even of suffering and dying for the wife as Christ did for the church. V. 26. “That he might sanctify and cleanse It with the washing of water by the word.” Christ’s objective for the church was a cleansed body of believers in all holiness. This is confirmed in the following verse. V. 28. “So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself." In a Christian marriage there is such union as to carry the thought of one body, in which case if a husband wounded his wito ho would be wounding hhnself. Here is no place for divorce. V 5.29,30. “For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherieheth it, even as the Lord the church; for we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.” Love is the binding force in a Christian home and from out erf ft flow harmony and united service just as God’s love operates in the church. V. 31.. "For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and that they two shall be one flesh.” God has planned that mankind Should be perpetuated, and man was to be called out of a home to form (a new home which is a holy calling. Here is a mystery, but ft is not to be ignored. See verse 32. V. 33. “Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.” In accepting home responsibilities the husband is deserving from his companion such ck»e co-operation as to express a profound respect and love for him. That posterity shall be blessed of God, there must be in the very blood stream the love of each other and <jf God. The parenta ought to be able th say to their children, “Remember there is nothing but pure blood in you. keep it pure.” Such a conviction will save from, irregularity and immorality and unchastity. —Based on copyrighted outlines produced by the division of Christian Education, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U. for a good time of Christian fellowship. The mid-week service is at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Eternal benefits are being offered to those who deposit some time at this meeting. Thursday night at 7:30 the picture, “The Great Light” will be shown at the Missionary church on N. 10th St. This picture was filmed in Germany. Reihhold Barth will be present with this film. | Book Reviow \ How to Become a Christian, by Samuel M. Shoemaker, Harper and Bros., “gives directions for one of the greatest jobs there is: the building of a Christ-like life.” And then the author tells how to sustain it. Those who are seeking the way to the Christian life, and those who are already church members will appreciate this helpful book; we are all too consumed with our self-indulgence and selfsufficiency. If you can adapt yourself to ydtir surroundings, you ate on your way to contentment
