FRANCIS BENTZ \ HONORED WITH SHOWER A shower was given in honor of Mrs. Francis Bentz, the former Arleie Dersch; Mrs. James Markley and Mrs. Robert Gage were the hostesses at the former’s home. The guest of honor received a white carnation corsage trimmed with green ribbon upon her arrival. The table decoration consisted of a large green umbrella under which stood a small bride doll. Each ’guest received as a favor a miniature green umbrella in keeping with the green and white theme. Games Were played, and the prizes won 'were then presented to Mrs. Bentz. Those awarded prizes were: Mrs. .Clarence Dersch. Mrs. Eugene Coyne, Al Bentz, and Herman Bentz. A delicious lunch was served by the hostesses later in the evening. H. ZERKEL, JR., ENTERTAINS CHURCH GROUP Mrs. Hubert Kerkel, Jr., w r as hostess yesterday for.the evening circle of- the Decatur Methodist church. Mrs. \W. H, Brown and Mrs. Ray' Lehman assisted. Mrs. Carl Gerber presided over the business meeting. FinaJ plans were made for the W. S. C. S. bazaar candy booth for which the evening circles are responsible. The -bazaar will be held November 19. It w-as decided to contribute a sum of money toward the New England dinner to be served the same day in the church dining room. The circle also agreed to sell cutlery as their project for the following winter. - \ Mrs. Fred Soldner gave portraits of several outstanding wornen of the Old Testament. Included in her. review were the lives of Bara, Hagar, 'Rebecca, Leah, and Rachel, and in conclusion the un-. forgettable story of Ruth. Mrs. Soldner will continue to review from the book by Nora Loft at the next meeting of the circle, which will be held at the home of Mrs. Robert Kolter. Two new members were welcomed into the organization. Mrs, Robert Feasel and Mrs. James Brooks. PAST PRESIDENTS’ PARLEY MEETS The Past Presidents’ Parley of the American Legion • auxiliary,’ Unit 43, met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Frank Liniger, with Mrs) Arthur Myers as co-host-ess. During the business session it was aecided to buy gifts for the Christmas gift shelf at the Fort Wayne Veterans’ hospital. The group also decided to give a five dollar check to their adopted nurse who lives in a veteran’s nursing home at Dayton, O. Each hostess to the parley is requested ta write to this nurse. Five parley members and the unit president, Amanda Dierkes, attended the fourth district Past Presidents' Parley meeting which was held .Thursday at Fort Wayne; Mrs. Ed Bauer was installed as vice-president. the Decatur parley will entertain the district parley in April. The November unit parley meeting will be held at the Legion hopie with Mrs. Tillman Gehrig and Mrs, Lawrencei Rash as co-hostesses. Pleasant W.S.C.S. met Thursday afternoon a the home of Mrs. Burl Fuhrman. The meeting was opened with the song “My Faith Looks Up to Thee’’, devotionals were\ read by Mrs-Nettie Singleton. Mrs. Earl George Fuhrman gave the lesson and each officer reported on the cfinic meeting held at the Pleasant Mil’s •Methodist church. Roll call was answered by seventeen members. Two guests were present—Mrs. Arnold and Mrs. Mallonee. Mrs. Shady dismissed the meeting with prayer. -Lovely refreshments were served by the hostess, (Mrs. Fuhrman. _____ i FALL BANQUET ENJOYED BY LOCAL GROUP The fall banquet of former Adams county home demonstration presidents was served at the Presbyterian churirh in Decatur recently. Mrs. Noel Heniphill presided at the business meeting. Roll was called by those present giving their names and which club they represented. Mrs. Albert Beineke, county home demon straion president, was called upon and gave a few brief remarks. Miss Anna K. Williams also gave a tew remarks pertaining to the clubs and also announced the dates of coming meetings. Officers as’ follows were elected for coming year: Mrs, Carl Frey, president; Mrs. Dan Striker, vice-president; and Mrs. Paul Erp, secretary and treasurer. A memorial for Mrs. Ralph Stanley was given by Mrs. 'R. C. Mrs. Carl Frey appointed the Kirkland Ladies’ club to be in charge of the program for the 4 spring meeting. 'Members of the Holy Family Discussion club meet Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Eugene Baker. Prayer to Our Lady of Good Counsel opened the meeting; thh roll call and reading of the minutes from the previous meeting , followed. The sacrament of baptism was studied and questions concerning it were discussed. The meeting closed with the recitation of the rosary for peace. Our Lady of Victory Study club, which Was to meet Wednesday with Mrs. Lawrence Gase. has been postponed until October 21. A Missionary meeting will »e ' conducted Wednesday evening it seven-thirty o’clock at the Chur ’h of the Nazarene. The Ladies’ Aid of the Union Chapel-church will meet all day Thursday at the church. A potluck dinner is scheduled for noon and quilting and sewing will be enjoyed throughout s !he day. A’.t ladies of the church are invited to attend.
