Irate Grandmother Yields To The Law I - \ . Permits Workmen To Remove Tools BALTIMORE. Md„ IT —Mrs. Wanda Sienkielewski. the fighting grandmother, lowered her rifle long enough Tuesday to let a construction company haul away its captured equipment. Mrs. Sienkielewski threw a chicken wire fence around the machinery last webk because the Leo Butler Co. allegedly ignored her. demands to get it out of her yard. Construction workers tried everything, including a daring sea* borne invasion, to get their equip- I ment back. But with a .22 caliber . rifle and pistol, Mrs. Sienkielewski carried the day. Under a truce agreement reached Tuesday, however, she agreed 1 to liberate thj? steam shovel, compressor, pump and other machinery after the firm asked her formal permission to take it. s "° Her attorney said this cleared the way for her to exercise her rights, presumably to sue -for storage and damage to her property. Early Application Urged For Veterans i First Applicants Get Preference Indiana veterans planning to enter school this fall under the Kbr rean G1 Bill were reminded by the VA today Qiat they will receive their first ’subsistence checks much sooner if applications ar.e made now, M. I). Cummins, manager of the VA regional office. Indianapolis, urged veterans to avoid the fall enrollment peak by applying now for certificated of eligibility.. X fihotostat or certified copy of separation papers should , accompany the application, to speed up processing. Veterans! should thirst contact the school of their choice before applying, because the application must name the educational institution and specific course of training. Under the Korean ’ GI Rill, monthly payments are made only to the ve.teran-student. range from sll <> tf> the veteran with no dependents to $l6O to the veteran with more than one dependent. With the help of thes£ checks, veterans must pay all their own school expenses. Allowance checks are mailed monthly, but before VA can mak6 a payment, it must receiye certification signed by the veteran and his school stating that he teas ac} tnaFly in training during that month. 5 Cummins estimated that 6A-O’Oo Indiana veterans are now potent tially eligible for training under the Korean GI Bill. h ’ i
