Erect Barricade At Sing Sing Entrance Keep Visitors From Scene Os Execution ' O6SINWG. N. Y. UP — GuatGi . at Sing Sing Prison threw up a 7 barricade today to keep unauthorized visitors 30© feet away from . the grim, cliff-side bastion where atom spies Juljuh and Ethel Rosenberg are scheduled to die tonight if legal strategy fails them. As the hour approaches for the supreme court to decide whether to overrule or uphold the stay of execution granted the Rosenbergs by associate justice Wiliam O. Douglas, warden Wilfred H. Denno ordered the erection of the sawhorse barricade to prevent any demonstration at the prison gates. > A solid line of 25 prison guards; carrying clubs manned the barricade Across the only road to the prison. ’ ~. Ossining police cars constantly 4 patrolled ithe road, and prison guards armed with rifles watched the entrance courtyard from turrets atop the institution's grey - walls. <The condemned husband ard wife spy team waited in their cells in death row for word from the Supreme Court. Guards said they f showed no outward concern but did not conceal their vital interest ir ehch news broadcast transmitted over ,the prison loudspeaker system. r . '. T They* -were uncommunicative to their guards and they gave no indication they regarded this day—their IHth wedding anniversary — as anything .but another gloomy 24 hours in the more than two years they have spent in the shadow of death.'. Scheduled to die at 11 pjnn today, they displayed no emotion Wednesday when they heard over the prison radio that supreme court justice Williaan O. Douglas had granted them a stay of execution until the full court decides a legal point in their case. Informed of the stay by.the prison radio, they told guards they were ’’pleased . . . happy,” but otherwise refused to comment. But not so Julius ißosenberg's mother «who with another son ard daughter was visiting the condemned man when the news was disclosed. She Suffered a mild heat t attack. Guards later quoted her as saying she was ‘overjoyed.” Her condition was such that warden Wilfred Denno permitted her and her \other children to be taken from within the prison in a private auto.
