Klenk's Open League Play Here Sunday Klenk's Federation league baseball champions for the last two seasons, will open the 1953 league season at McMillen field in Decatur Ssnday afternoon at 2 o’clock, it was announced by sponsor Ferd Klenk. operator of Kienle's appliance and hardware store in Decajpr. ■“ *\ I The 1953 Klenk aggregation will ofc strengthened by the addition of new talent. Bill Doehrman, Montpelier, O.» former Fort Wayne Van pitcher, and Norm Ellenberger, Ball State, student and also a pitcher have been added to the mound staff of the local entry. Another valuable addition to the Decatur club is the acquisition of Leßoy Compton, Bluffton, formerly with Indianapolis in the American Association and later with the Brooklyn Dodger organization, Compton will play second base for Decatur this season. Several local semi-professional players also have been added to the Klenk roster to open the 1953 season. There are 11 teams in the federation league and the.jDecatur entry has won the title the last two campaigns. *■ ' Klenk, who long has been active in the sponsorship of baseball and teams in Decatur, stated that it has long been his hope to win three titles in a row and he believes this will be accomplished with the addition of new players this season. Sunday’s season opener' will get underway promptly at 2 o’clock. There has been considerable work done bn the McMillen diamond this week to ready the field for the opening of the season. Jackets Lose To Portland In Meet The Portland Panthers squeaked out a 48 1/6 to 44 5/6 victory over the Decatur Yellow Jackets in a dual meet held aX Wdrthman field in this city Wednesday afternoon.
