Fort Wayne Student k Rotary Winner Discussion Contest Held Lost Evening Te| Gugler, a senior from Fort Wayne South Side high school, took first honors at the group competition of the Rotary discussion contest last night at Columbia City. Gugler crowded out the local qb* trant and the winner last week pf the local discussion competition, Miss Carol Kalver. Other contestants were Donnt Moob, Columbia City; Carmen Palish, Churubusco; and Michtel Young, Bluffton. Young was afeo in the American Legion oratorical contest, zone stage, held recentiv at the Fort Wayne Legion Post 47 In which he lost tlo Decatur high entrant, Miss Sharlene Lehman. Present from the local Rotary club were Clarence Ziner, also sectional chairman for the contest; W. Guy Brown, member of Rotary and superintendent of schools in the city; Roy Kalver; and Kenneth Shannon. Also presept were .Deane Tjorwin, speech instructor of Miss Kalver; and two students of Decatur high, Sharon Kimble and Marilyp Jaberg. ' Ziner presented the winner, Gugley. With the first prize, a Rotary Judges ot tne contest were professors from Manchester College, Fred Conkling, Lloyd M. Hoff and Wayne Geisert. Host for the evening was the Columbia City Rotary club, A. G. Kerr, group chairman. ** ,jr Rural Youthers To Broadcast Saturday Adams county rural youth will be featured on the second in a series of transcribed radio broadcasts Saturday at 11:45 h.m. over rapio station WKJG, Fort Wayne. Rural youthers who will Jake part in the question and answer program for I’s minutes are Margie Menter, Jim Merriman, Sally McCullough, Gloria Koeneman, and H'enry v Getting. Ben Gerke, one of the outstanding dairy farmers of Adams county, accompanied the members and, answered questions concerning his farming occupation. The weekly radio broadcasts of the northeastern Indiana rural youth clhbs are sponsored by the farm department of WKJG. \ Wayne Rothgeb, farm director, is in charge of the programs. Fellowship Night Held At Church Thp first annual fellowship night Os ths First Presbyterian church of Decatur, sponsored by the women s association, was held Wednesday night at the local church. More than 125 members and their families attended. The Rev. Ray Walther delivered a short sermon and Mrs. Robert Nisbet had charge of the group singing, assisted by her husband. W. P. Schrock and Mrs. .Charles Msgley. Mr|n J. F. Sanman presi< ed at the meeting in the absence ot the association president, Mrs. Lowell Hamper. Mrs. Ray Walther had charge of a Bible contest. Mrs. Carrie Haubold, presided at the organ. Following the program the entire group enjoyed refreshments and members also were taken on a tour of the entire building to inspect several improvements made recently. ' —t — ~T“ .
