Pro foolball Curtailing Os TV Protested PHILADELPHIA UP — The government # rounded out the first week of its anti-trust trial against the! National Football league to-, day after television and radio executive complained of the loop's? restriction on* televising and broad-' casting of its games. Another. station official also testified Thursday of a "fantastic” demand of SIO,OOO for the privilege of televising the 195(1 title game between Los Angeles and Cleveland. The case which opened last Monday, is being beard without a jury before U. S. District Judge Alan K. Grim. Clqir R. McCollough, president and -general manager of WGAL and WGAL-TV, Lancaster, Pa.,, told the' court that his station televised eight NFL |ames in 1949, then was informed that five others would be cancelled. McCollough said he learned that the reason for the cancellation was that the . Philadelphia Eagles had decided to invoke a rule against gan)o telecasts within 75 miles of the city where they are played. Lancaster i he noted, is 74 miles from Philadelphia. Charles Mallory,. president and general manager of station KSJO. Sati JoW. Calif., said that his company lost an estimated $6,000 in 1950 as the Result of the league radiio and TV rules. He tes-\ tified this resulted from the refusal.of Tqny Morabito, president of the Sah Francisco 49’ers, to grant - him broadcast rights tor his station. Herbert former manager of WICU-TV. Erie, Pa., said that he offered Commissioner Bert Bell |2,500 to have the 1950 Loa Angeles at Cleveland game televised ovhr station. Stewart said that the. commissioner. told him SIO,OOO “would be more like it” The defense contended that the offer and i|ne league’s price, was no different than fans haggling over itfae price of an admission ticket. i! 1 i . — T High School basketball South Bend Adams 57, South Bend Riley 50..
