Commodores Forced To Overtime Session To Beat Hoagland, 63-62

After trailing until turo midutes of the final whistle, the Decatur Commodores edged out the Wildcats at Hoagland last night in a brilliant last - second , show of strength in an overtime, to see Hoagland go down to its seventh defeat of-the Wesson. The sldw starting first period gave hint.©Cthe furious battle that yv-as In, the fire. Both the Commodores and the Wildcats were sorry looking crews at first, the Commodores appearing to have lead in the wrong places, and the Wildcats about as wild as a rocking chair. Hoagland, though, was a little more and led the Commodores 10-8 at the first gun. Hoagland got on their horse in the second and left the Commodores scratching in the dust., Hqagland’s Richman piled on eight points that spelled the difference, as the Wildcats led at the half, 27-20. - v ' ' ’ in the third period the Commodores class began to show through, as little York’s three long side shots almost' in succession left Hoagland helpleSsyas the Commodores slowly closed the gap. Deca-' tur’sP Brunton shared the spotlight with York in the third, scoring three goals and a charity ■ toss. Plan County Net Tourney In January | preliminary plans for tho anndal Adams county high school basketball tourney, to- be \ played Jan. 1.5, 16 and 17 at the Decatu - high- school gym, were at a meetings of principals-of the' competing schools at the office of Glen Custard, county superintendent, Wednesday afternoon. . L. Dallas Albright, principal of the Jefferson school, is tourney manager for the 1953 undethe rotating schedule set up for operating the tbuniey. He will be assisted by two faculty from each of the schools. Eight will compete in next, month’s, tourney, with the addition,' of the Berne Bears in the county meet for the first tipie in many years. Previously, only seven teams competed, as the Decatur Yellow Jackets d° ndt enter the county meet. These eight (teams will vie foi* -the championship won last season by the Hartford Gorillas.
