1 Creamed comments on the Sunday school lesson, Jesus’ Thanksgiving "— and Ours, Matt. 11:2-6, 25-30, for Sunday, November 23. Today’s lesson is designed to Bho< us the things for which we have rhost need to be thankful-— it is a study ih vuities. Jesus puts the seal of his approval upon spiritual' realities, rating them vastly higher than material things. V 5.2,3. "Now when John, heard in the . prison the works of the Christ, he sent by his> disciples, and said unto them, Art thodhe that cometh. or look we for knottier?" John expected Jesus to fre,e Palestine of the Roman yoke; Jesuk’ idea of the Messiah was different *- he was preaching love and mercy. John knew Jesus was die Messiah when he baptized him. Re might have wondered whether this was the same mam f ’'And Jesus answered and said unto, them, Go and tell John the things which ye see and hear:’’ The miracles, proofs of his Messiahship. were Jesus* answer. Prophets had performed miracles by' the power of God; Jesus performed them in his own name, t - ■ V. 5. ‘‘The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear.) and the dead are raised up. -and the poor have good'' tidings preached to them.” Here isi Jesus' estimate of life's supreme values: good, health, the opportunity for living a full life, and the blessing of God’s forgiveness. Until Jesus came the poor had been unworthy of notice. fV.fl/ “And blessed is he, whosoever ' shall find no occasion of in me.” In other words is he who shall not take offence at my poverty and lowliness of life so as to reject me and niv teachings, failing to see the evidence that I am the Messiah. \ Vs.W.TF. "At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O c Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these

things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them until babes: Yea, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in- thy sight.” Jesus is saying, I thank thee that thou dost love humility and dost condemn pride. Jesus had humility; the Pharisees did nbt so were unworthy to be leaders of men; The "babes” were the ignorant And the obscure, the teachable, the simple, the humble. To be in good standing with the world is not to be in good standing with God unless we are humble in heart and mind. "Eyen so, Father . . That God does a thing is, after all, the best reason we can have that it is right. V A V. 27. “AU things have been delivered unto me of mV Father; and no one knoweth the Son, save they Father; neither doth any know the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son Willeth to reveal him.” Here is ths climax of our thanksgiving to God, Jesus himself, the greatest spiritual blessing that ever came into the world. He alone can reveal God to us. The greatest disqualification for knowing God is a lack of humility. I V. 28. "Come unto me all ye that labor! and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” The invitation <4 universal; all have burdens. Life Jd labor till one finds the will of God. When one does come to God he ceases to sin, for it Is separation from God that makes sin possible. "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall 'find rest unto your souls. The combination of rest and a yoke sounds paradoxical; but Jesus* yoke is different from the world's yoke; it alone lightens burdens —many, besides- sins; it consists of faith, trust, and a sense of His presence. y.3D. “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Would you have your life filled with joy and thanksgiving? Live every day as unto Christ, the reqpirenients of his kingdom.
