. JUNIOR ARTS GROUP \ 0 IN MONOAX MEETING The Arts liejd a regular meeting Monday; evening with Miss Charlene Lehman as hostess. Marilyn Jaberg, president, opened the meeting, followed with . roll tail and minutes • from the •previous meeting given by th«? secretary. Miss Catherine Weidler read the bydaws of the organization to the group and urged them to be followed. The Art department' chairman, Anita Smith, presented a topic, “How-To Beautify Yourselves,” and gave hints and sug-; gestions on hair stylings. l Janet Hott and Madeline Friend gave an interesting talk on Mil* likn fabrics, followed with uses ' of perfumes and appliances of ■ ( make up explained by Carolyn McDougal. Refreshments were, served by the .hostess, assisted by Carolyn McDougal, Lois Wood, Madeline Friend, Anita Smith-and Janet. Hott, during the social to twenty- < three guests present.for the meeting. 'After a short business meeting, , Mrs. Harold Mprphy took charge of the entertainment. \\ II : The program consisted olf musical current events, - vocal solos by Pauline Britzenhofe and -a piano duet by Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Edgar Gerber. Choruses for the Christinas program were rehearsed arid the meeting closed with luncheon sen veo by Mrs. Macklin, Mrs. Bephus Jackson, Mrs. E. D. Engeler and Pauline Britzenhofe. BARBARA SUE FUHRMAN HONORED BY PARENTS \ Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fuhrman entertained with a birthday party. Sunday, honoripg their youngest daughter, Barbara- Sue, on her eighth birthday.'; Centering the table was a large birthday cake, ip the shape of a butterfly. The Holy Cross Discussion, club will meet at eight o’clock Wednesday evening with Mrs. Ellen Lengerich. A bake sale of chicken and noodles wil| be sponsored by the Poe W. S. C. S. at the Schafer store at nine thirty o’clock Saturday. The Farm Bureaq 4-H achievement group will have a pot-luck supper starting at six thirty o’clock Friday in the Emmanuel Lutheran school. Fancy work, crocheted articles, other sewing and a variety of bake godds will be sold. The public is welcome. The supper will be served in the church basement and the bazaar and bake sale ki the school. Newspaperwoman |\ Is Paid Honpr As Shining Example INDIANAPOLIS UP — Myrtia Lee Barker, a staff member of the Indianapolis News who spends her wakingthours in a wheel chair, was honored as ”a shining by the national society tor crippled children and adults. Miss Barker received the “Who’s Crippled?” award at a recent meeting of the Marion f.ounty chapter of the society. The presentation was made by John Hillpiah, assistant editor qf the News. The newspaperwopu-n lost. the use of both legs and her right arm at the age of 11 when she contracted polio. She gradually regained use of her, arm by accompanying her mother in piano duets. Miss Barker now writes a dailv column called "My Window” and handles feature assignments i for the newspaper. A spokesman for the society said she is "a shining example to ojther disabled people liecause she demonstrates that if given a chance, a handicapped person can lead a full gnd useful life.”

Serve Servicemen Thanksgiving Turkey WASHINGTON UP — American, servicemen in every part of the world will have turkey dinners on Thanksgiving Day. Front-line troops in Korea will get their dinners from mobile field kitchens or from insulated containers that keep food hot as it is carried up to the foxholes. The armed forces will serve 3.600,000 pounds of turkey — 2,000,000 to overseas personnel of the army and air force, 1000,000 to army and air force personnel in the United States, and 600,000 to the navy and marines.
