Irish Upset Oklahoma In Grid Feature CHICAGO .VP — Notre Dame had too many hard hitting tackler's for sixth rated Oklahoma Saturday, hut it was questionable today whether the once-beaten Irish would have the same edge for top ranked Michigan State next week end. /' ' ’ ' The Irish gave the Sooners their first defeat in seven games this season. 27 to 21. as Oklahoma ball carriers fumbled six times and lost posesaion on five occasions when smacked with granite efficiency by, the Notre' Dame team. And, though Coach Frank Leahyproclaimed the win due to "th® luok of the Irish/* more credit was due to linebacker Dan Shannon, halfback Johnny Lattner and fullback Nell Worden. Shannon set up the winning score ■when he hit Grigg so hard he fumbled the kickoff on the Sooner 24 as the scdre whs tied 21 to 21. Lattner then pranced 17 yards and quarterback Tom Carpy finally carried over from the one. ■Worden was credited with two scores as he powered through the Oklahoma line consistently on plays especially designed for him. Lattner, gaining 98 yards in 24 , attempts and hauling in two passes for 46 yards, was a standout oh defence too. and his pass interception and return for 28 yards set up the second Notfe Dame touch* down to gain a 14 to 14 tie. State conservation officials said today. v H. P. Cottingham, director of the department’s and ganie division, said the toll might be slightly higher than estimates because of a flood of hunters.
