Adams county greeted the new net season , with a flourish Saturday night, four teams engaging In three games on the opening night of p»«y. The feature clash was played kt Geneva, where the Cardinals edged out the Berne Bears, 62-59, in a battle that, was rugged all the way. Pleasant had little trouble piling up a\s7-37 triumph at Wren, 0., while Adams Central ran into a lot of size in losing to Bryant, 58-52. —oOo*— Five games are on the schedule tnis week. The Decatur Commodores will open their season Tuesday night (election day), tangling with tne Spartans at Pleasant Mills. \ —'oOo- — Four will be played Friday night, headlined by the 2 Monmouth at Hartford scrap. In other tilts, Betne is at Mills, Adams Central at Geneva and Jefferson at Madison in Jay county. —oOo — The Monmouth at Hartford battle will mark another first in Adams county high school basketball. The Limberlost bell, an intra-county frophy, will be up for grabs at this game. - This trophy was established St last week’s meeting of the Adams county athletic association, with' the draw giving the trophy to Monmouth for initial defense. The trophy'will change hands only when the team holding it loses \to another Adams county team. This setup also includes the Adams county tourney. . ■ ■ » —oOo— One major change has been made in basketball rules this season. It’s the new rule on one-shot fouls. In the flrtt 29 minute* of the game, every foul that is normally a one-shot foul in the past will come under the new one-plus-one "rule. This means a player is awarded one free throw, if he makes it,’ play goes on as hi the past. If he misses, however, he is awarded another chance. (Fouls against field goal thrower excepted. One shot only, same as last year). During the last three minutes of the game and during the trtr»minute overtime, all personal fouls become two-shot fouls as long as the man fouled does not score d field goal. Anytime a player is fouled intentionally during the game, the offended player is awarded two free throws. This applies, even if he scores a field goal as he is fouled. The right to waiye a free throw has, been taken away and all fouls, must \ be shot instead of taking the ball out of bounds. ■ —oOo — - A glance back, or the final standings of county teams at the close of the regular 1951-52 season: W L Pct.
