IHSAA To Continue Assigning Officials INDIANAPOLIS, UP —The Indiana high school athletic association's board of control will continue to select and assign basketball tournament officials following an action announced by the IHSAA’s athletic council Thursday. L. V. Phillips, commissioner of the IHSAA, said the 23-man council rejected unanimously a proposal by Principal bbert Piety, Thorntown. to permit schools entered in a sectional tuorney to select their own officials by majority vote. The council did approve, however, a proposal permitting high school students to participate in pro-amatjeur golf tourneys without affecting . their amateur standing. Phillips Said the students may compete providing they do not accept cash or merchandise prizes. They may accept trophy and medal awards. The council also amended its amateur rules concerning prep baseball players to read that any high school - student who directly or Indirectly signs a professional contract loses his amateur standing and immediately become Ineligible for all high school sports. A proposal to move the start of football season up to: Sept. 1 instead of the opening day of school was tabled for further study. Action on this matter will be taken at the council’s May, 1953, meeting. Terre Haute Man Is Killed In Accident TERRE HAUTE UP — Fred 4.
