Group singing Opened the session, followed with Mrs. Wing reporting on'the home department meeting. SOCIAL EVENING HELD BL TRI KAPPA MEMBERS A social evening began at the Elks home Tuesday for the members of Tri sorority. Hostesses for the enjoyable affair were Mrs. Reid ’ EreksOn, Mrs. Rolland Affolder. Mrs. Vaugan Hilyard and Miss Jane Maddopt. The entertaining rooms were outlined in a Halloween theme with pumpkins and black crepe paper used as decorations. Canasta aud bridge supplied tpe entertainment. Mrs. Kenneth Runyon, Mrs. Kenneth McConnell and Mjrs. Jack Schnepf received the prizes. A short business meeting, held prior Co the social activities, was used to dischss final plans for the free variety show on November 7 at the Decatur high school gym. \,- The Young-Adults class of Bethany Evangelical united Brethren' church will serve a chill suppejSaturday evening between the hours of five o'clock and sevep in the church basement. The complete meal will be 75 cents. A social evening will be held at the Legion home by the American Legion Auxiliary' Friday evening at eight o’clock. Porter Seeks Early Hearing On Charges Denies Charges Os Senator Ferguson j PARIS DP — r Paul R. Porter, accused by a Republican senator of “pro-Gommunist bias,” asked today for a quick hearing in Washington to give him a chance to clteir his name. * Dorter, a special representative of the mutual security agency in Europe, said he would make a vigorous fight against charges 'by Sen. Homer -Ferguson that he; is “an advocate of revolution” and Ha friend of Communists.” Ferguson has demanded that Porter return to the United States for questioning by a senate “watchdog” committee on foreign aid appropriations, of which the Michigan senator is a member. Porter admitted Tuesday night h|e once had urged collaboration With Russia, but said he changed his mind tn late 1937 and since has fought Communism. < “These same charges were aired by Martin Dies more than 10 years ago and 1 came out with a clean Will of health.” Porter added today. “Il don’t intend to take them lying down.” j However, Porter said he doubted Ferguson would arrange a hearing before the Nov. 4 presidential election. - Porter, whose wife is about to filter a hospital to have a baby, said he had been on a “first-ngme basis” with Ferguson for two years, but had received no formal advance Warning of the new attack. Niblick Arrested On Traffic Charge Charles Niblick, 22, route 1, involved in the auto wreck at Coppess Corners over the weekend, was arrested upon being discharged frpm the Adams eounty memorial hospital today, charged with driving a car while his license - was j suspended. Deputy sheriff Jim Cochran made the arrest. Niblick was - to appear in mayor’s court this afternoon but in lieu of his physical condition having several fractured ribs ami a shoul? der 1 blade injury, SIOO was put up for A ibjond to guarantee his appearance at a later date, Niblick had his license suspended in Wells county on July 19 of this year for reckless! driving. Along with the suspension. Niblick was committed to the W’ells county jail for 10 days and was fined SSO and , costs. I Sheriff Robert Shraluka and state troopAr Walter Schindler are continuing to gather evidence to upholdr the charge for which Niblick was arrested.
