Lutheran Chorus At St. John's Aug. 23 Wisconsin Chorus To Present Concert The Lutheran chdrus of Sheboygan, Wis.. and Dr. Edward Mechlin. New York organist, will present an j'hbur of worship in song’’ at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. at St. John’s Lutheran church, north of Decatur on U.S. highway 27, The chorus includes in professional singers, but men and women representing diversified walks of .life, who take time off from their daily employment to participate in concert tours, bringing to the public the works of the master composers of church music.. The membership includes singers of considerable experience, as well as young voices of high gchob| age. Nearly 500 personal appearances have been madp by the group. During 1950, the chorus was in Western Canada, with concerts in communi•i<s in the provinces of Manitoba. Saskatchewan and Alberta. Last year, the group toured the southwestern states and California, presenting concerts to\l6 audienCek They have \ been heaid numerous times on the radio, on local networks and international broadcasts. They also assisted the late Dr. Walter A. Maier on several broadcasts of the Lutheran Hour. ' In developing i>ts activity, the chorus has come largely under the guidance of Dr. Edward Mechlin, veteran organist and noted interpreter of Bach. Martin J. Langert, member of the faculty of St. Paul’ Lutheran school in Sheboygan and co-editor of the music series. “Laudamus Dominum,” is conductor of the chorus. The CIO Uniteql Packinghouse Workers of Ambj-ica announced Tuesday night a new agreement , had: been reached with the big-tllree' of the industry, Canadian, Canada! Packers, and Burns & Co. | The new agreement provides wage boosts, of approximately 7 cents hourly, retroactive to Aug. 1.
