The Wisconsin Republican singled out Averell Harriman, Democratic presidential candidate, tor particular criticism in a statement issued 3s the Democratic national convention opened in Chicago. He should have taken the advice of a j member of I is own party, Congressman James P. Richards, S.C., and resigned lung ago.” Wiley; said “reckless politicking” and “foul blow” attacks by the Democrats have done “severe damage to bipartisanship.” He said it is "clear” that the Deihocrats have tailed to make bipartisanship a “two-way street and have stuck a knife into the back of the bipartisan foreign policy." Republican State Committee Meets Holder Expected To v Submit Resignation ‘ I ] INDIANAPOLIS, UP —Cale J. Holder’s future as .Indiana Republican state chairman hung in balance today as the GOP stale committee rpet. Observers expected Holder to submit-his resignation. But it was considered possible the district chairmen and vicechairmert, who comprise the commihee, might rejept the > resignation- and give Holder a vote of confidence to retain the chairmanship. Holder suffered two setbacks since he was re-elected state ,chairnian in May. One came in the nomination of George N. Craig for governor and another in the nomination of Dwight D. Eisenhower for President. Holder delivered Jo 1 Taft the 30 Indiana votes which the senator garnered in the state convention. When other states switched their votes to the Eisenhower bandwagpn. Holder stood- fast and did not change the Hoosier vote; But like Holder, most members of the ktate ijtdmmittee favored Tlift. Thexl therefore, may not consider Taft’s defeat a rebuke to Holder’s leadership.
