Cool Breezes Halt July's Heat Wave Most Os Country Is Given >Heat Relief By UNITED PRESS Cool breezes dissolved a July heat wive across most of the country today, but scattered regions sweltered under the touch of hot winds and a scorching sum A cold front, accompanied' by some thundersqualls and rain, pushed eastward across the Appalachians, the S. weather bureau said. A mass '<V cqol air had already swirled down from the Great Lakes into the Mississippi Valley and then marched across the southern plains into Texas. For some areas it was the first cool spell of the summer. ■ The southwest, which has suffered in a record-breaking drouth, got its first relief in-more thart a month when temperatures dropped and rain pelted the area. j. Rainfall in Oklahoma, which Waa badly parched by the proloiftw drouth, ranged from a bare wetting to S| soaking 2.74 inches at MarloW. t The Pacific Northwest parched in a dry heat wave that crippled the logging industry. ip Denver. Colo., could expect a high somewhere in the 80’s compared to the chilly 43 degree weather that hit the city Monday. The 43 reading was, the lowest July temperature in Denver since 1903. Americans could be grhteful for the the heat. In eCntral Europe a heat wave entered its 12th day. Hundreds of persons have died from heat prostration or drownings on the continent, and several Italians were seized with heat madness.. An 84-ye,ir-oki woman became crazed with the heat as her train stopped in Naples and la butcher ran through the streets of Rbme, crazed by a heat fit and firing a revolver into the air. ; '— u.jL \ if you have somethin;;: tu sbu orrooms for rent, try a Democrat Want Ad , It br‘.ng» results.
