■ I Comments J&l F On LtessonAwa A Creamed comment's on the Sunday school lesson, the Sip of Greed, Exodus 20:17; Luke 15:3321; 13:29-34, for Sunday, .June 22. The last commandment lb in the spiritual realm where God must be taken into account and in this respect is like the first commandhrent. God who created man will call for an accounting of the soul as seen in its desires. ' ' ' I V:l7. “Thou shalt hot covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant nor his maiaservant, ■rtpr his ox, nor his ass, por anything that is thy neighbor’s.” The covetousness of this Verse means earnestly to desire what it is unlawful to have. To be greedy for material things is the core of dishonesty; to covet a neighbor’s wife is adultery. V. 13. "And one of the company said unto him, faster, speak to my brother, thst he' divide the inheritance with; me.” This man’s just claim took first place in his desire and he would use Christ’s influ-, ence to help hini. Many )vant God’s biassings in efforts to get things. V. 14. “And he said' unto him, Man, who made a judge or a divider over you.” Christ refused to interfere in secular disputes, Jesus’ work on earth was the redemption of man and he had’no time,, for judging in secular matters. V.l 5. “And he said unto them, ; Take heed and beware of covetiousness; for a man’s life consistmeth hot in the abundance of the I things which he possesseth.” The ippssession of an abundance of things is guarantee that a life will pe happy or useful. One’s .success ps not measured by money. - V. 16. “And he spake a parable junto them, saying, the grbjmd of a certain man brought forth bountifully.” Here was a good farmer who produced good crops; he fail.-. =ed to take into account the part God had in the needed sunshine, j moisture. temperature, and soil. | V 17. “And he thought within i himself, saying. What shall I do, because 1 have no room where to . bestow my fruits.” Herej was an fl#* j Something good can made but of mistakes and shortcomings. Ruskin took over thei task of making a blot on a silk handkerchief into something beautiful, in a most artjstic and skillful way he made a design in India ink, using/the blot as a center for thip design. A blotted life is not necessarily > a useless life, for Jesus can make ! any life beautiful, if yielded to I " ■ Lesson Prayer: ; Lesson prayer: We pray to be jiept from allowing material things' to possess us as touching our time, our motive, our love. Lead us to I use what we have to help the needy and show oir love to our neighbor as to odrselvesj G rant that we may become rich toward God in growing intio his likeness. A committee to study divine healing has been formed by the Presbytery of Glasgow. The action has drawn attentions here to the increasing interest! in this questioin in the Church of Scotland 1 .

' unthuoght of problem-—to use it as a blessing to others, or to store it for himself as social security? The character of the man is seen in the many references to himself. V. 19. “And this will 1 do; 1 will pull <down my barns and build greater; and there I will bestow\ my fruits and my goods.”, Here was the dream of an ideal retirement of a man who lived for self. He would have all he thought he needed and therefore nothing to worry about. |\ I V.2fl. “But God said to him, Thou fooj, this night thy soul be required of thee; then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?” This man was condemned because he reasoned wrong in that he tailed to take God into account and made no provision for the right use pf his : stored up goods of which he was I simply a steward. And worst of • ail, he neglected to care for his i soul though he Was a: good moral man. / ', .< V. 21. “So is he that .layeth up treasures for himself and is not rich toward CR>d.” If he had used his goods to minister to the needy, he would have been ricir toward God. He had a chance to love his neighbor as himself, and |n so doing he would have been rich toward God. V 5.29,30,31. “And seek not ye what ye shall eat. or what ye shall drink, neighter be ye of doubtful mind. For all these things do the nations of the world seek after. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Man is not to be in suspense, because of the necessities of life as are the heathen nations who do not know better; but he is to seek to make God supreme in his life, and to strive for the spiritual graces God offers —pardon, peace, satisfaction of soul, kindness, goodness, charity, love, etc. V. 32. “Fear not little flock for it is the Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom,” The words “little flock” implies God speaking as a good shepherd leading and caring for his followers; and.more than that, in making them heirs ■of God. I —Based on eowrighted outlines produced by the Division of Christian Education. National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U. S. A., and used by permissionClericus bays: \, Clericus says: “Greed is a prolific source of crime. It may warp ones personality through an undue emphasis on material things and the neglect of the finer values bf life. It makes people self-cen-tered and stingy. It is one of the greatest curses of mankind.” r. j I'':-. 7 .. BRM Uniting Spiritual Power of God 1 Helen Keller says, “The pros--1 pect of millennium does not seem so imminent as once it did. The j process of emancipation of man- ] kind from old ideas is very slow. The human race does not take ih new ways of living readily. But I do not feel discouraged. Person- ' ally, I am impeded by physical dif- ] ficulties which generate forces I powerfull enough to carry me over j the barriers. This is true of the world’s problems, tod. It is for us to work with all our might I to unite the spiritual power of I good against the material power I of-evil.” ,
