Sanitary Fill Leads To Suit Against City BELLEVIILLE, 111. UP — Twen-ty-one property owners who live in the vicinity of the city dump and sanitary fill here don’t the "obnoxious odors’’ and have filed an $84,000 suit against the city. The suit Wednesday alleged the sanitary fill, causing the odors, is injurious to health and depreciates property values. Air Force Deserter Taken Into Custody TIPTON, Ind. UP -J FBI agehts announced Thursday the arrest of Billy G. Meadows, 21, Toledo, Ohio, at the home of relatives here. Meadows was charged with deserting the air force Sept. 12, 1951, at Wright\Pktterson Field, Dayton Ohio. LaMotta Is Winner Over Bob Murphy DETROIT* UP — A furious finish in the last two rounds gave Jake LaMotta a new career Thursday. - The underdog and a losing fighter after the eight, LaMotta piled up just the points to in bis finishing flurry as he declaimed Irish Bob Murphy in a 10-round televised bout here Wednesday night. That meant that LaMotta can fight as! a light-heavyweight, and sp he has a new championship to chase. ■' p AH three ring officials gave LaMotta an edge in the ninth and tenth rounds, which were decisive because judge Andy Brown and referee Lou Handler both scored the fight 51-49 in LaMotta's favor. Judge Johnny Weber gave the winner a much wider edge—ss-45. Murphy blamed his 10-round loss on a long layoff hnd asked for a re-match within 30 days. Murphy, 175%, said he had paled his weight down from 214 pbunds since February and he didn’t halve anything left in the closing rounds. Golf-Picnic Social Planned For Teams A golf and picnic social will be held June 18 at 5:30 p.m. at HannaNutitnah park for the members bf the Chamber of Commerce teams who gave their time to participate in the recent membership drive of the chamber. Both teams had 15 members who worked all hours and, finaly came up with a recdrd-break-ing drive. \ : A member business of the Chamber will be used to cater the gettogether, sandwiches and cold drinks being provided. Dodd, Colson Backed By Officers'Board Board Os Inquiry Findings Overruled WASHINGTON, UP — A board of high-ranking officers which investigated the Koje Island fiasco recommended against punishment of Cols. Francis T. Dodd and Charles F. Colson, it was disclosed Thursday. The board held that the two officers who subsequently were demoted from brigadier general to colonels acted in the best interest of the United Nations. Published testimony by army secretary Frank Pace, jr., and Gen. J. Lawton Collins, army chief of staff, revealed that these findings by a board of inquiry were overruled by Gen. Mark Clark, vyho recommended that both general officers be reduced to rank of colonel. ? j . This recommendation Was upheld by Pace. The board of inquiry was composed of five officers headed by a Brig. Gen. Kellogg' presumably Henry K. Kellogg, commanding general of the 409th engineer brigade in the Far Eastern command. It included two full colonels and two lieutenant colonels, the testimony disclosed. Pace and Collins appeared Monday before a house appropriations subcommittee to answer questions about the capture qf Dodd, then commanding general of Koje Island prison camp, and his release in response to concessions made to Red prisoners by Colson, who succeeded Dodd as camp commander. L . Their testimony was made public Thursday. Collins said' Dodd and Colson now are assigped to posts in \ Japan. They have not completed the service credits necessary for rotation out of the Far East, he said. He did not say specifically what their present Ruttes are. Mother, Boy Burned When Ball Explodes INDIANAPOLIS, UP — A mother and her baby were burned Wednesday when a toy rubber ball exploded in a heated oven and flames shot out from the oven door. Mrs. Lavinna Brummett, 21, was treated at General Hospital for bprna to her hands and hair. Her year-old son, Varies, was treated by an ambulance doctor for burns op his face.
