GOP Gubernatorial Candidates At Meet St Joseph County Meet Held Tuesday South Bend. Ind., May 28 — (UP) — Six Republican chMdidates for governor of Indiana stopped last night In the midst <ff, their campaigns and agreed joint meeting that the GOP must have party unity to win the election next fall. St. Joseph bounty’s 99 delegates to the state nominating convention June 7 looked over the complete field\ of gubernatorial hopeftils at a meeting alsb attended by several candidates for other state offices. The governor candidates are George ‘N. Craig. Indianapolis; Samuel R. Harrell, Noblesville; Leland L. Smith, Logansport; John W. Van Neks, Valparaiso; W. O. Hughes, Fort Wayne, and Francis T. McCarty, Brimfield. Delegates heard each candidate tell why h« thinks he would melee a good governor and explain that regardless of who wins. Republican unity is necessary for a November victory. 11 Persons On Ship Reported Sunk In River Freighter Missing, Presumed Sunk In St. Lawrence River Cap Chat, Que., May 28—(UP)— A 600-ton freighter was reported missing and presumed sunk in the St. Lawrence Tiver today with H persons aboard. i Marine officials said they believed the ironrhulled 8,F., St COU’ verted coastal coal ship which left St. Anne Des Monts May 13 for Three Rivers,: Que., heavily-laden with 500 cords of pulpwood, had capsized. !j i Villagers in settlements on the south shore of the river oars from the B.
