CHURCH ENTERTAINS MOTHERS The mothers and daughters of the Calvary Evangelical United Brethren church were entertained at a* banquet recently at the church. The men, assisted by the Rev. Lewis Strong, served the dinner. Decorations in keeping with Mother's day and springtime. Each guest was presented a carnation corsage as they were seated, anil at the close of the dinner tliey adjourned to the sanctuary/ where a program appropriate to, the evening wap presented. Mrs. Bernice Darr, president rtf the W. S. W. S., opened the serv-. ices with group singing, followed with scripture and prayers. The missionary topic was "Faith.” I A short business' session was held with Mrs. Bessie Koos and Mrs. lona Shifferly elected delegates and’Mrs. Geneva Drake and Mrs/Betty Beer aS alternates to the annual W. During the business meeting, conducted /by the president, Martha Stucky, the treasurer’s report was given by Lillian Stuckey. The lesson followed on "Effective Citizenship" by Eva Brewster. Ending with the social, refreshments were served by the hostesses, Martha Essex, Lilly Rich and Elisabeth Hendricks. UNIT fOF CHURCH GROUP HOLDS MAY MEETING The May meeting of Unit 3 of the Bethany W. S. W. S. was held at the home of Mrs. Gerald Cole with thirteen members, one guest and two children present. . ; Mrs. F. H. Willard was in charge of the devotions and used as her theme “Mother’s part in the Christian home.” Janis Rawley followed with a recitation. During the business meeting, the members were urged to attend the annual branch convention to be held June 10- to 13. Mrs. Richard Speakman (presented the devotions and lesson and the group sang “This is My Father’s World.” Prayer followed with the offering by Mrs. Verlando Clark. During the business meeting, plans were made to have a pot-luck dinner during the Bible school for the regular june meeting. j Mrs. Frank Steele gave the closing prgyer. The evening continued with the collect given by Matilda Sellemeyer, group singing led by Georgia Foughty and Beulah Parrish, th,e welcome given by the president, Juanita Schafer, greetings, Elsie Kramer, the ninth district director, special tributes to charter members and past presidents and the address by Miss Telia Haines of Indianapolis. During the tributes io charter members a letter was read from Marcia Martin, who is confined to her home. Visiting B. P. W. included Miss Kramer of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Eva Weinert from Auburn and three other members. The meeting climaxed with the group singing the "Emblem Benediction.” The anniversary committee included Miss Matilda Sellemeyer, as chairman,. Marjorie Rentz, Margaret Ashbaucher, Margaret Melchi, Eloise Noll, Frances Miller, Rosalia Miller, Jacquelyn Miller, Barbara Osterman, Shirley Berling and Evelyn Frohnapfel. Four lovely bouquets of spring flowers were awarded as door prizes. The Women of the Moose held a social meeting Thursday evening. Mary Dickekrson received the door prize.
